Checking the DVD Player, Rear Seat Entertainment, Generation 3.1/3.2






Checking the DVD player

Fault-tracing information
If the DVD player does not function but the other audio/display sources do function the fault could be due to:
- Short-circuit/open circuit on cable.
- Damaged DVD-disc.
- Damaged DVD-player.
- Damaged rear seat entertainment module (RSE).

- Ignition on.
Turn on the system for rear seat entertainment using the remote control.
Check that the buttons on the DVD player light up.

Do the buttons on the DVD player light up?

Yes - Checking the wiring

No - Checking the power supply

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Checking the power supply
Check that the internal fuse in the DVD player is intact. Replace the fuse if it is damaged.
Check the wiring between the DVD player and the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE).
Check the voltage to the DVD player at the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE). Measure between #D4 and #D6.

Is voltage between 10-14 V?

Yes - Checking ground connection

No - Checking the wiring

Checking ground connection
Measure the resistance between the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE) terminal #D12 and ground. The resistance must be less than 1 ohms.

Is resistance less than 1 ?

Checking the wiring
Check the wiring between the DVD player and the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE). Check for an open-circuit and short-circuit.
If a fault is found change the wiring between the control module and the DVD player.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking the DVD player

Checking the DVD player
Check that the DVD is not damaged and that it is clean. Try using another DVD if necessary.
Check that nothing has jammed in the DVD player. Check that there are no mechanical grinding noises coming from the DVD player when it is in operation.
Check that the DVD is the correct format for the DVD player (NTSC/PAL).

Is the transportation protection disc in the DVD player?

Yes - Checking the function

- Ignition off.
- Move the connector for the DVD-player to the input for the TV-connection.
- Ignition on.
Select the DVD-player as source for one of the screens and press on the remote control's PLAY button. Adjust the screen settings for the monitor where playing takes place, if needed.





Is playing OK?

Yes - Checking the inlet on the control module

No - Replacing the DVD player

Select TV as source for one of the screens and press on the remote control's PLAY button. Adjust the screen settings for the monitor where playing takes place, if needed.

Note! If TV-receiver is not installed in the vehicle, connect DVD or aux as source to that input.

Is playing OK?

Yes - Checking the function

No - Replacing the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE)

- Ignition on.
Turn on the system for rear seat entertainment using the remote control.
Select DVD as source at one of the display screens. When DVD is selected a message about incorrect format is displayed within a few seconds. When the message is gone, press the EJECT button.
If the disc is ejected, insert an undamaged DVD-disc and press the YES button below.

Is the transport protection disc ejected?

Yes - Verification

No - Replacing the DVD player

Checking the function
Select the DVD-player as source for one of the screens and press on the remote control's PLAY button.
Adjust the screen settings for the monitor where playing takes place, if needed.

Is playing OK?

Yes - No Fault Found

No - Replacing the DVD player

Replace DVD-player according to the following instruction.
- DVD player, replacing Service and Repair
