Checking communication
- Ignition on.
Press the brake pedal. Move the gear selector to different positions.
Check that the gear position is updated in the display in the combined instrument panel.
Is the gear position updated?
Yes - Intermittent fault
No - Checking the wiring and component

Checking the wiring and component
- Ignition off.
Check ground terminal 31/6 at the A-post. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the communication cable between gear selector control module terminal #2 and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #B21 (#B31). Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the 6-pin connector and connector 54/3RF (passenger compartment cable harness - engine compartment cable harness). Check for damage to the terminals and pins.
Check the cable between the gear selector module (GSM) terminal #6 and ground terminal 31/6. Check for an open-circuit. See Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Replace the circuit board in the top panel if no fault is found in the wiring or connectors.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing
No - Attempt New Test
