Signal Too High
Signal too high
Checking communication
- Ignition off
- Check the transmission control module (TCM) and Gear selector module (GSM) connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
Press the brake pedal and move the gear shift selector to the different positions. Check that the gear position is updated in the display in the combined instrument panel. Compare with the indicators in the panel for the gear selector.
If the gear position is updated in the combined instrument panel and in the panel at the gear selector, the problem was probably caused by contact resistance or oxidation.
If the gear position is updated in the combined instrument panel but not in the panel at the gear selector, replace the printed circuit board in the top panel.
If the gear position is updated in the panel at the gear selector but not in the combined instrument panel there is probably a fault in another system. Exit fault-tracing and fault-trace the central electronic module (CEM) or the driver information module (DIM).
Other information
- To check the transmission control module (TCM) connector, see Connecting breakout box, Transmission control module (TCM) Connecting Breakout Box, Transmission Control Module (TCM)

- To check or replace the printed circuit board (Geartronic), see Printed circuit board gear selector assembly / top panel Geartronic, replacing Printed Circuit Board Gear Selector Assembly/Top Panel Geartronic, Replacing.
Select an option:
1. The gear position is updated in the combined instrument panel and in the panel at the gear selector
2. The gear position is updated in the combined instrument panel but not in the panel at the gear selector
3. The gear position is updated in the panel at the gear selector but not in the combined instrument panel
4. The gear position is not updated in the combined instrument panel or in the panel at the gear selector.

Checking the wiring
- Ignition off.
Check the communication cable between the gear selector module (GEM) terminal #2 and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #B21. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Was a fault detected?
Yes - Verification
No - Checking the control module
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the control module
Hint: To determine whether the control module is faulty, disconnect the connector for the gear selector module (GSM) and temporarily connect a cable to short-circuit the control module terminals.
- Ignition off
- The breakout box connected
- Disconnect the 6-pin connector for the gear selector module (GSM)
- Connect a temporary cable between terminals #A53 and #B31 on the breakout box.
Caution! Thoroughly check that the cable is connected to the correct terminals. Also check that there is no risk of unintentional short-circuits.
- Ignition on
- Read off the status.
Check that the status indicates "1" when the cable is connected.
Disconnect the cable end that is connected to terminal #A35 and move the cable to terminal #A53.
Note! Leave the cable end connected to terminal #B31 in place.
Check that the status changes to "0" when the cable has been transferred to terminal #A53.
If the status shifts to "0" the transmission control module (TCM) is OK. Replace the circuit board in the top panel.
If the status shifts to "0" the transmission control module (TCM) is faulty. Replace the control module.
Remedy as necessary.
