Checking the P-shift lock solenoid

- Ignition on
- Gear selector in position P.
Try moving the gear selector to another position without depressing the brake pedal. It should not be possible to move the gear selector.
Depress the brake pedal and try moving the gear selector to another position. It should now be possible to move the gear selector to another position.

Was the function OK?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking the wiring and component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the wiring and component
Check the cable between the gear selector module (GSM) and the shift lock solenoid. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
If no fault is found in the wiring, connect an ohmmeter to solenoid connector terminals #1 and #2 (solenoid side).
The resistance must be 15-25 ohms. Replace the solenoid if the resistance is incorrect. Replace the printed circuit board in the top panel if the resistance is OK.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information
- To replace the shift lock solenoid, see Solenoid back-up (reverse) inhibitor, replacing Solenoid Back-Up (Reverse) Inhibitor, Replacing
- To replace the circuit board in the top panel (standard), see Printed circuit board gear selector assembly / top panel, replacing Printed Circuit Board Gear Selector Assembly/Top Panel, Replacing
- To replace the circuit board in the top panel (Geartronic), see Printed circuit board gear selector assembly / top panel Geartronic, replacing Printed Circuit Board Gear Selector Assembly/Top Panel Geartronic, Replacing

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Attempt New Test - Checking the P-shift lock solenoid

-------------------------------------------------

Intermittent fault
Check ground terminal 31/6 at the A-post. Check for intermittent contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the 4-pin connector and connector 54/3RF (passenger compartment cable harness - engine compartment cable harness). Check for damage to the terminals and pins.
Check the connectors for the gear selector module (GSM) and for the shift lock solenoid. Check for an intermittent contact resistance.
Check the cable between the gear selector module (GSM) and the shift lock solenoid. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary.
