Checking the shift solenoids

Note! If the car has STC or DSTC, these functions must be disengaged. Press in the STC/DSTC button on the center console. Hold the button in for at least 2 seconds. The LED on the button must go out.

- Ignition off
- Raise the car so that the drive wheels are clear of the ground.

Warning! Ensure that the car is safely raised.

Warning! Check that there are no objects caught in the front tire treads.

- Start the engine
- Read off the gear ratio during shifting.
Move the gear selector to Geartronic. Select 1st gear. Accelerate carefully until the engine speed (RPM) is approximately 2000 rpm.
Try to maintain a constant speed throughout the test.

Note! The gear ratio varies if a constant vehicle speed and engine speed (RPM) are not maintained. This is because the transmission will free wheel.

Then move the gear selector to position 2 within 10 seconds, to position 3 within a further 10 seconds and then to position D (fourth gear).
Check that the shifts are carried out correctly be comparing the gear ratios with table 1.
Make a note of the shifting pattern and then compare with table 2.

Note! When comparing the gear ratio with table 1, the ratio may vary by up to ±1 %. This is normal. This is due to the tolerance in the signals from the wheel sensors.

Replace the control system if an incorrect shift pattern is obtained.

Note! Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be stored in the ABS system when the rear wheels are stationary and the front wheels rotate. Erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the ABS system after fault-tracing.

Other information:
- To replace the control system, see Control system / valve housing, replacing .

Select an alternative
1. The shift pattern is according to table 2 above
2. The shift pattern differs from that in table 2
3. There is no incorrect shift pattern.

Check that the shifts are carried out correctly by comparing the gear ratios withTable 2 - Valve stuck when down-shifting.

Note! Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be stored in the ABS system when the rear wheels are stationary and the front wheels rotate. Erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the ABS system after fault-tracing.

Select an alternative
1. The control system has been replaced
2. Shift valve 2-3 has stuck in shift pattern 1-2-2-4 according to table 2
3. Shift valve 3-4 has stuck according to table 2
4. There is no incorrect shift pattern.

Was an incorrect shifting pattern obtained?

4 - Replacing the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Checking engine braking

Hint: Test drive the car to determine whether the fault is in the transmission or in the transmission control system. Test drive as follows:

- Start the engine and move the gear selector to position 1 (Geartronic 1)
- Accelerate up to 4500-6000 rpm and release the accelerator pedal (AP).
If there isnoengine breaking, there is an internal fault in the transmission. Replace the transmission.
If there is engine breaking, there is an internal fault in the transmission control system. Replace the control system

Other information:
- To remove the transmission, see Gearbox, removing Gearbox, Removing
- To install the transmission, see Gearbox, installing Gearbox, Installing
- To replace the control system, see Control system / valve housing, replacing .

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Checking diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

- Ignition on
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
If any other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) than TCM-000B or TCM-000C are stored, these must be fault-traced and remedied after this fault-tracing is completed.

Erasing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

- Ignition off
- Wait for two minutes to allow time for the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) to be stored in the control module memory
- Ignition on
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Checking the software

Checking the software

Note! To carry out fault-tracing, the transmission control module (TCM) must be programmed with specific software.

- Ignition on
- Read off the control module diagnostic number.
Check the read off diagnostic number against the diagnostic numbers given in the center table.
If the diagnostic number is included in the table, the control module must be programmed with the latest software.
See the technical journal for information about the most recent software.

Continue - Test driving

-------------------------------------------------

Test driving

Note! Test drive the car according to the driving schedule below to check whether the fault is still active. The test drive is compiled in order to create the conditions in which the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored again if the fault is active. The TEST MODE function can be used to provoke any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). The function reduces the conditions for how quickly diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the control module and the test drive becomes easier.

- Start the engine
- Activate TEST MODE.

Note! Do not switch off the engine!

- Disconnect the VIDA station. Test drive the car as described below.

Warning! Please observe traffic regulations.

Note! Before test driving, the transmission should be at operating temperature, approximately 80-90°C.

Move the gear selector to Geartronic position. Accelerate carefully until the speed is between 35-65 km/h.
Maintain a constant speed.
Shift up to second, third and fourth gears. Maintain a steady speed for approximately 15 seconds between shifts.

Criteria for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
- The gear selector is in the desired gear position for at least 15 seconds
- Speed above 30 km/h
- Positive engine torque (no engine braking)
- Engine speed (RPM) above 2000 rpm.

DTC - Replacing the transmission

NO DTC - Fault-tracing information

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the transmission
Fault-tracing indicates a mechanical fault in the transmission. Replace the transmission.

Other information:
- To remove the transmission, see Gearbox, removing Gearbox, Removing
- To install the transmission, see Gearbox, installing Gearbox, Installing.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Continue - Resetting the adaptation and oil quality counter

Fault-tracing information
The fault-tracing indicates that the control module has previously detected a fault but that the fault is no longer active.

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting the adaptation and oil quality counter

Resetting the adaptation

Resetting adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil change"

Hint: The transmission has torque controlled adaptive pressure control. Pressure control means that the transmission regulates the pressure itself during each gear shift. This avoids harsh gear shifting. Each gear shift is evaluated by the control module and stored in the memory. This allows for compensation for wear and tear in the transmission and clutch. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset after the transmission has been repaired. This is to ensure normal operation. The oil is replaced during repair; the "Transmission oil change" counter must be reset. If the counter is not reset when the fluid is drained and replaced, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in incorrect circumstances.

Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.
