Note: As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Removing the spring strut
Remove:
- the wheel
- the anti-roll bar link from the spring strut.
Note: Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the boot is not damaged.
Remove:
- the ABS line from the spring strut
- the ABS sensor. Hang up the sensor using a piece of wire.
Measure the spring strut position in relation to the wheel spindle before removal
Note: The measurements are made so that the same camber angle can be obtained when installing.
- Measure across the wheel spindle/spring strut at the upper screw as illustrated
- Before measuring clean off any dirt from the measuring surfaces
- Note the measurement.
Removing the spring strut
- Remove both the screws retaining the spring strut in the wheel spindle.
Remove:
- the three nuts holding the shock absorber bearing in the bodywork
- the spring strut.
Removing the shock absorber bearing
Secure the spring strut in a vise.
Remove:
- the nut for the shock absorber bearing. Use socket 999 5467 and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold
- washer
- the mounting.
Removing the spring
Relieve the load on the spring seat using hydraulic tool 951 2911 together with plates 951 2914.
Remove:
- the fixing nut on the shock absorber. Use socket 999 5469 and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold
- the spring seat
- the spring
- the rubber bump stop and gaiter.
Check that the spring strut bearing (1), spring seat (2) and rubber bump stop with boot (3) are free of damage. Replace if necessary.
Installation

Install:
- the bump stop with the boot
- the spring
- the spring seat.
Install the fixing nut. Tighten to 70 Nm. Use socket 999 5469 and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
Installing the shock absorber bearing
Install:
- the mounting
- washer
- the nut. Tighten to 70 Nm. Use socket 999 5467 and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
Installing the spring strut
Install the spring strut in the bodywork using the new nuts. Tighten to 25 Nm.
- Install the spring strut on the wheel spindle. Use new screws and new nuts
- Adjust the spring strut and wheel spindle to the measured value.
Note: Ensure that measurement is performed at same points as when removing.
Tighten, see Specifications. Use bevel protractor 951 2050.
Install:
- the anti-roll bar link to the spring strut. Use a new nut. Tighten to 50 Nm. Counterhold using a Torx wrench to prevent damage to the boot
- the ABS sensor. Tighten to 10 Nm.
Note: Ensure that the ABS sensor seat in the wheel spindle is absolutely clean. Clean the ABS sensor with a soft brush.
Install:
- the ABS sensor cable in the bracket
