Hydraulic Pipes/Hoses Steering Gear, Replacing

PRESSURE PIPE/HOSE, STEERING GEAR, REPLACEMENT

NOTE: The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.


Removal
Preparatory work
Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting.

Hint: Place paper or a rag under the supply pipe to absorb any oil spillage.





Install a hose clip on the feed hose for the power steering pump.
Remove the pressure line from the power steering pump.

Removing the sub-frame
Remove the sub-frame.

Removing the delivery lines
Position a container under the steering gear.

Remove:
- the supply pipe from the steering gear. Drain the oil
- release the supply pipe /hose from the clip
- the supply pipe.

NOTE: Note the routing of the supply pipe / hose.

Installation

NOTE: For tightening torques, see: Specifications.

Installing the supply pipe / hose

Install:
- the supply pipe and return pipe to the steering gear. Tighten
- the supply pipe / hose in the clip for the steering gear.

NOTE: Use a new O-ring.

Installing the sub-frame
Install the sub-frame.

Installing delivery lines
Install the supply pipe on the power steering pump.

NOTE: Use a new O-ring.

Remove the hose pliers from the supply line.

Finishing
Connect the battery lead.

WARNING! Avoid skin contact with the oil.

NOTE: For the correct oil grade use Volvo power steering Fluid P/N 1161529.





Fill the power steering reservoir with oil. Bleed the system.
Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times. Top up with oil as necessary.
Lower the vehicle.
Apply the parking brake. Start the engine.
- A: Turn the steering wheel slowly to the right, keep it at the limit position for two seconds.
- B: Turn the steering wheel slowly to the left, keep it at the limit position for two seconds.
Repeat steps A and B ten times.
