Checking the Sound Signal From the Rear Seat Entertainment DVD Player to the Vehicle's Ordinary Speakers, RSE 4.1

Checking the sound signal from the rear seat entertainment DVD player to the vehicle's ordinary speakers.

Fault-tracing information
If sound from the system for rear seat entertainment cannot be played in the vehicle's rear loudspeakers, the cause of the problem may be any or some of the following:
- Supply/fuse for the control module for rear audio separation
- Supply/fuse for the rear seat entertainment module (RSE)
- Cable harness from the vehicle's ordinary sound system.
- Cable harness between Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) and rear audio separation module.

Checking the settings
Check that the volume is not turned down. Also check if the malfunction remains regardless of the chosen audio source. If the sound disappears when selecting a certain audio source, check the cables for loose connection or open circuit to that specific audio source. For further information, see the wiring diagram.

Checking the power supply to the control module for rear audio separation
When the sound is connected from the system for rear seat entertainment to the rear loudspeakers, a clicking sound shall be heard from an internal relay in the rear audio separation module (RAS). In this way it is possible to check that the control module has voltage feed and ground.

Hint: The control module is supplied with voltage via:
- #1. Power supply (30-supply)
The control module is grounded via:
- #9

Checking activation signal
To activate rear audio separation module (RAS), it must receive a high signal on the cable from Rear seat entertainment module (RSE).
Perform the following check.
- Switch on the ignition. Turn on the system for rear seat entertainment using the remote control.
- Insert a DVD or CD in the DVD-player and press the Play button. Select DVD-player as audio source via the remote control and check that sound comes either to the wireless headphones or the wired headphones (that are connected in the AUX-panel) in the place where DVD-player was selected as audio source.
- Press the button on the remote control to activate the sound for the rear loudspeakers. When the sound is connected from the system for rear seat entertainment to the rear loudspeakers, a clicking sound shall be heard from an internal relay in the rear audio separation module (RAS).
- Measure the voltage between the cable for activation of rear audio separation module (RAS) and ground. The voltage shall be approximately 7-9 V when the function is activated. If voltage on the cable is high, but the rear audio separation module (RAS) is not activated, the control module is probably damaged.
Remedy as necessary.

Audio signals function description
The sound signals that the rear audio separation module (RAS) processes can either come from the Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) or from the vehicle's ordinary sound system.
Normally, the control module leads the sound from the vehicle's ordinary sound system to the rear speakers but can, via activation from the Rear seat entertainment module (RSE), also transmit the sound from the AUX-panel or DVD-player to the rear speakers.

Checking the audible warning signal
If sound can be heard in the headphones but not in the rear speakers - check the cables between Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) and rear audio separation module (RAS) for loose connection, short-circuiting or open circuit.
Remedy as necessary.

Control module for rear audio separation and speaker wiring
Check the cables from rear audio separation module (RAS) to the speakers for loose connection, open circuit and short-circuiting to ground and voltage. Also check the intermediate connectors.
If no other malfunction has been found, then the rear audio separation module (RAS) can be suspected as probable malfunction source.
Remedy as necessary.
