Checking the installation of the steering wheel angle sensor

Note! The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates that the steering wheel angle sensor is incorrectly installed. When installing contact reel/steering wheel angle sensor it is important that the unit is installed correctly. If the unit is installed with the revolving center section one revolution out, internal components may be twisted and broken at full lock. If this is suspected, replace the contact reel.




- Ignition off
- Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position
- Remove the steering wheel
- Ignition on
- Turn the steering wheel more than 5° in any direction to initialize the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS)
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the steering wheel angle.
Check that the steering wheel angle is 0° when the front wheels are pointing straight ahead. Set the wheels to the straight ahead position. Lock the steering wheel lock. Then adjust the contact reel so that the yellow marking can be seen in the window of the contact reel when the locking screw for the contact reel is in the correct position.

Note! The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for the steering wheel buttons is stored in the central electronic module (CEM) if the ignition key is turned to position II when the steering wheel is removed.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.








- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Ignition on
- Turn the steering wheel more than 5° in any direction to initialize the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS)
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the steering wheel angle.
Read off the steering wheel angle. Check that the steering wheel angle is 0° when the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
