^ Bumper front, replacing
Note:
be sure to also disconnect front fog light wiring, if so equipped.
2. Removal
Removing power steering pump
Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
Suck up the fluid in the reservoir. Use fluid evacuation equipment 951 2859.
Warning!
Be ready to catch all the fluid that runs out. Place a receptacle under the pump.
Remove:
- the 2 hoses (1)
- the pipe (2)
Caution!
Make sure that the pressure and return hoses are plugged.
4. Remove:
- 3 screws
- the power steering pump
5. Remove the fluid reservoir and the hose to the power steering pump, by pushing up on the reservoir. Discard these pieces.
6. Installation
Installing power steering pump
Install:
- the power steering pump
- the 3 screws. Tighten to 25 Nm /19 lb-Ft.
7. Reinstall:
- the return hose (1) with clamp to the pump reservoir
- the delivery pipe to the power steering pump (2) and tighten to 30 Nm /23 Lb-Ft.
8. Cable harness, conversion
Cut the cables of the larger connector at the front of the pump (large red and black cables). Isolate cut cables by wrapping with plastic tape.
9. Removing cable terminals
- Remove fuse F2 for the power steering pump.
- Pull up the red cable under the fuse post [1], and cut it behind the cable terminal. Isolate cut cable by wrapping with plastic tape, and press it down into the fuse holder.
- Remove the ground cable for the power steering pump (the larger 4 sq2 cable, behind hood strut in this photo [2]) and cut the cable terminal. Isolate cut cable by wrapping with plastic tape.
10. Installing the new cable harness
Install:
- First install the large connector of the new cable harness onto the power steering pump [1].
- Route the harness directly upward toward coolant overflow bottle [2].
Note!
Be sure to leave enough slack to avoid conflict with headlamp assy.
- Route cable along front of car, above radiator. Use 3 clips [1, 2, 3] on harness to attach harness to coolant overflow hose.
- Route cable between battery and fuse box, using wire ties to secure cable to existing harness at front of fuse box.
- Install positive (red) cable at fuse box. Reinstall fuse. Tighten to 5 Nm /4 Lb-Ft.
- Install negative (black) cable at previously removed ground connection. Tighten to 10 Nm /8 Lb-Ft.
- Connect the smaller electrical connector to the power steering pump.
11. Finishing work
- Fill with power steering fluid up to the mark on the reservoir. Use Volvo power steering fluid, part no. 30741424.

13. module (EPS), replacing
Start the engine and bleed the power steering system through full steering wheel movements, alternating left and right until the steering feels good.
Note!
After moving the steering wheel a few turns, move the vehicle a bit so that the tires are not loaded too hard in one spot.
Recheck the fluid level. See:
^ Cleaning, checking and adjusting
^ Wheel suspension, steering
^ Power steering pump, fluid level check.
^ Re-bleed if necessary.
