- Press the catch up. Remove the cover. Do not damage the painted surfaces and washer nozzles.

- Detach the ends of the bumper cover on the left and right-hand sides. Grasp the end of the bumper cover inside the wing liner. Carefully pull the end of the bumper cover so that the two catches under the lamps release. Lift off the bumper cover
- Disconnect the connectors for the fog lamps, if installed.
- Carefully place the bumper on a flat surface.

Note! Do not damage the painted surfaces.

- Pre-drill holes in the centre of the drill markings on the inside of the bumper cover. Pre-drill using a -3 mm (1/8") diameter drill bit.
- Drill out the holes from the inside. Use a -8 mm (5/16") diameter drill bit.

- Turn the bumper cover and drill out the holes from the outside. Use a -27.5 mm diameter special drill bit (P/N 9997114).

Note! Drill slowly and with pressure to avoid melting the plastic and creating a collar on the reverse.

- Provisionally reinstall the bumper on the car. Mark out corresponding holes in the foam through the inner holes in the bumper cover
- Remove the bumper from the car.

Cut-out in the front of the foam

Illustration A
- Localize the markings (1) in the foam.

Illustration B
- Mark out 30 mm (1 3/16") on the right-hand side of the hole markings in the foam.
- Drill 25 mm (1") deep into the foam at the four markings. Use a -40 mm (1 9/16") diameter hole drill bit. Break off the foam pieces.

Note! Cut-outs are not required for both outer sensors.

Note! On certain markets a plastic holder is available instead of the foam member. Make cut-outs for the two inner sensors in the same way as in the foam member.

Installing the sensor holders, sensors and cable harness

- Take the reverse warning sensors and holders from the kit
- Clean the sensors and holders using a clean cloth. Allow to dry
- Apply a thin layer of activator, P/N 8037076, over the sensors and the holders.

Note! Only paint the parts that are visible after installation.

- Position the sensors so that you can paint the sensor surface and so that they do not tip over.

Note! Allow the activator to dry for at least 10 minutes before painting.

- Spray the sensor holders and the sensors. Use the same colour code as the car. Use Volvo recommended paint. Only paint the parts that will be visible after installation.

Caution! Apply a maximum of two layers of paint. Too many layers may have a negative impact on the function of the sensors. However, the sensors must be painted for optimal functionality.

- File out the small cut-outs. Do not damage the paintwork. Only file exactly what is required.

Note! If too much is removed, the cut-outs may be visible once the sensor holders are in position.

- Smooth the edges after drilling if necessary. The hole may need adjusting using a file in order for the sensor holder to establish a good connection with the bumper cover
- Repeat this procedure at all four drill markings
- Remove any swarf.

- Align the sensor holders in the filed cut-outs on the outside of the bumper cover. Press the sensor holders in so that the hooks engage in the bumper cover.

Note! The holders are marked L for left, M for both centre holders and R for the right holders. Each of the holders has a unique shape and will only fit in one of the holes. Ensure you have found the correct hole before installing the holder and pressing it into place.

Note! The connectors for the sensors must be turned to the right.

- Take the sensors and align them against the sensor holder hooks. Press the sensors into place until an audible click is heard confirming that they are correctly positioned.

Note! The left outer sensor must be positioned loosely and not clicked into place.

- Take the cable harness for the sensors from the kit. Ensure that the cable end faces the correct direction from the connector on the car.

Note! The illustration shows a left-hand drive car. On right-hand drive cars the cable must be pulled out to the left.

- Connect the sensors to the cable harness connectors.

Note! A click should be heard when connecting. The noise confirms that the catch has locked.

- Secure the cable by applying activator (P/N 8037076) where the cable is to be positioned.
- Secure the cable by the bumper cover. Use butyl tape.

Installing the cable harness from the bumper

Note! Illustrations 29 - 38 show a left-hand drive car. Carry out the procedure on the left-hand side of the car on right-hand drive vehicles.

- Pull the end with the loose terminal pins in under the headlamp
- Continue to pull the (1) cable along the right-hand side of the car, under the expansion tank down to the cowl panel
- Route the cable so that it is concealed and cannot be damaged or worn. Secure the cable so that it does not move.

Note! Ensure that the cable does not lie against any moving components or too close to heat sources.

Note! Illustrations 31 - 34 display making holes from inside the passenger compartment on the right-hand cowl panel.

- Take a screwdriver and pry away the rubber plate covering the hole in the cowl panel.

- Locate the hole for the rubber grommet. Make a small cut in the insulation panel starting just above the hole, continue to the centre of the hole and then straight down.

- Push the carpet tabs to one side to access the hole in the cowl panel.

- Pierce holes through the insulation panel and out into the engine compartment, for hole-marking in the insulation panel.
- Cut out a hole in the insulation panel which is approx. 20 mm bigger than the size of the rubber grommet.
Applies to cars with fuel-driven parking heater

Caution! Protect the coolant hose on the water pump's horizontal connection when hole-marking.

- Take the rubber grommet from the kit and cut the top off the smaller rubber nipples
- Lubricate the rubber grommet. Use low temperature grease (P/N 1161417).
- Thread the cable through the hole in the rubber grommet. Install the rubber grommet in the hole.
