Electrical engine block heater, 110V, 5 cyl AWD

Electrical engine block heater, 110V, 5 cyl AWD
Applies to the S40 and V50, MY -07
- Remove the screws and the engine splash guard.
- Remove the left front wheel.
- Remove the five screws holding the bumper shell in the fender liner on the left and right-hand sides.
- Remove the nut holding the left-hand fender liner to the front member.
- Bend the front edge of the left-hand fender liner up over the brake calliper.
- Push in the centre of the five clips (1). Remove the clips.
- Remove the two screws (2).

- Remove the covers for the nozzles for the headlamp washers on the right and left-hand sides. Carefully grip the cover. Pull the cover out until the catch becomes accessible.

- Press the catch up. Remove the cover. Do not damage the painted surfaces or the washer nozzles.
- Detach the ends of the bumper shell on the left and right-hand sides. Grasp the end of the bumper shell inside the fender liner. Carefully pull the end of the bumper shell so that the two catches on the inside release.
- Remove the bumper shell and air baffle. Pull the bumper shell and air baffle forward until the remaining catches under the lamps release.
- Disconnect the connectors for the fog lamps if applicable.
- Assemble the front engine block heater socket using the parts from the kit, in accordance with illustrations A, B, C and D.

- Cut off the small lug on the rear mounting plate from the kit.

- Insert the cable through the top hole furthest to the left in the lower front grille.

- Install the front engine block heater socket in the hole below, centre it in the hole. Tighten in the connector using a Torx screw (L=40 mm) and the mounting plate from the kit.
Applies to the S40 and V50, MY 07-
- Remove the seven screws from the engine splash guard.
- Remove the four screws.
- Angle out the lower part of the bumper (1).
- Pull out the air baffle from the guides on the bumper and pull downwards slightly (2).
- Assemble the front intake with the parts from the kit.
- Cut off the small lug on the rear mounting plate from the kit.
- Insert the cable through the lowest hole furthest to the left in the lower front grille.
- Insert the heater cable behind the air baffle.
- Insert the front intake's connector in the hole underneath, centre it in the middle.
- Tighten the connector using torx screw (L=40 mm) and the mounting plate from the kit.
Steps 19 and 20 apply to the S40 and V50, all models
- Reinstall the air baffle.
- Tighten it using the four screws.
- Reinstall the bumper shell using the five clips and the two screws in the upper edge.
Cable routing
- Install three clips from the kit on the panel edge on the underside of the left front member.

- The air baffle on the bumper may require removal to access the cable inserted through the front grille's left-hand side panel end and the seal in front of the radiator.
- Route the front engine block heater socket's cable through at the seal by the lower front grille's left-hand side end face. Route it above the radiator's left-hand bracket (1) and up to the lower edge of the side member. Clamp it by the bracket (1) using a tie strap from the kit. Route it along the lower edge of the front member and over the drive shaft. Route the cable up slightly in the engine compartment.

- Press the cable into the previously installed clips.
- Reinstall the air baffle in the bumper shell and to its rear mounting in the bracket in the lower edge of the radiator.
- Reconnect the connectors for the fog lamps if applicable.
- Press the ends of the bumper shell into place on the body.
- Position the cable as illustrated, and clamp it in at the top of the strut using a tie strap from the kit. Route it up to the top of the engine compartment.
- Install three clips from the kit on the front edge of the panel above the windscreen wiper motor.
- Guide the cable up to the top of the engine compartment to the position illustrated.

- Press the front intake cable into the clips. Guide down the cable at point (1) and route down through the engine compartment (behind the AC pipes) down to the strut in the right link arm mounting.

- Clamp in the cable, from the top of the engine compartment and down, using a tie strap.
Note! The cable must not be clamped directly to AC, fuel or brake pipes.
- Clamp the cable from the front engine block heater socket in at the top of the strut using a tie strap from the kit.
- Grease O-ring on the front engine block heater socket's connector using low temperature grease part no. 1161417.
Note! Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.
Installing the engine block heater
- Remove the cover on the radiator expansion tank.
- Unscrew the drain nipple in the radiator pipe above the oil cooler in front of the right drive shaft. Drain the coolant.
- Detach the hose clamps of the left oil cooler hose and remove the hose.
- Put the hose to the side.
- Remove the screw from the bevel gear.
- Install the bracket from the kit using M10 screws. Tightening torque 50 Nm.
- Take the heater, rubber coated clamp, hoses and hose clamp from the kit. Assemble as illustrated.
- Connect the heater between the oil cooler and water pipe. Tighten the clamps securely.
- Secure the heater to the bracket using screws from the kit.
- Take the radiation shield from the kit and thread on the joint cable of the heater.
- Route the cable as illustrated.
- Connect the cable to the engine block heater. Press it into the engine block's connection securely.
- Press in a locking sleeve from the kit over the cable splice (1).
- Pull the radiation shield up so that it fully covers the connector on the heater.
- Fasten the radiation shield at the heater connection (2) using the gray tie strap.
- Take two double clamps from the kit and clamp the cable in the power steering hoses.
- Reinstall the left-hand fender liner. Tighten the fender liner to the left-hand side member.
- Tighten the two fender liners to the bumper shell on the right and left-hand sides.
- Refit the covers to the nozzles for the headlamp high-pressure washers.
- Fill with coolant, run the engine to operating temperature, bleed the cooling system and check that there are no leaks.
- Reinstall the engine splash guard.
- Remount the front wheels and tighten the lug bolts to 90 Nm (66 lbf.ft.).
