Method For Splicing Door Harness A-Pillar Connector

Service Method for Splicing Door Harness A-pillar Connector

This operation may be done with the door on the bench if desired. Be careful in order to not cause any damage to the door (dents, paint nicks, etc) as it is placed on the bench.

11. Remove the loudspeaker, front door, see VIDA: Removal, replacement and installation> Electrical system > Media, communication and navigation>

Radio equipment

12. Remove the connector from the door

13. Cut the cable tie.

Pull up the grommet along the cable harness.

14. Splicing the connector

Caution!
Cut one cable at a time to an appropriate length, so as the splices end up inside the grommet, and splice it with the male section of the service cable harness.

It will be necessary to stagger the splices to allow them to fit inside the grommet.

For cable splicing, see VIDA:

Cleaning, inspection and adjustment> Electrical system > Cables and fuses> Cables

15. Install cable tie to secure harness to connector.

Reinstall the grommet on the connector.

Install cable tie around the grommet.

Wrap insulating tape around the grommet to secure it to the harness.

16. Finishing

Product specifications > Specifications, mechanical > 8 Body and interior> 83 Doors and lids > 830 general > doors/hood/trunk lid/roof, adjustment dimensions

Install the service label provided on the A-pillar so that is in view when the connector is to be serviced.

*See note below.

Check all door related functions.

Applies to V50

Check the rear windshield washer.

Check and clear any DTCs.

*)NOTE:
C70, S40 and V50 for MY 2006 were originally equipped with tin plated terminals in the A-pillar connectors. If it becomes necessary to replace terminals or the complete door harness on a MY 2006 car that has had the connector service kit installed, it is important that appropriately plated replacement terminals or a door harness from My 2007 (originally equipped with gold and tin plated terminals) is used. Failure to do so may result in galvanic corrosion.
