Parking assistance, front (Continued)

Note! The tape adheres immediately. Incorrect positioning of the sensor holders can result in the function being out of order completely or temporarily.

- Connect the cable harness connectors to the sensors.

Note! A click should be heard when connecting. The noise confirms that the catch has locked.

- Install the three sensors in the sensor holders so that they fasten securely.

Note! The left-hand outer sensor must be positioned loosely and not hooked into place.

- Apply activator (P/N 8637076) and secure butyl tape on the marked locations.

- Affix the first sensor cable by the two center sensors using butyl tape.

Note! The illustration shows a left-hand drive car. On right-hand drive cars the cable must be pulled out to the left.

- Secure the remainder of the sensor cable using butyl tape starting on the left-hand side.

Illustrations 53 - 65 show a left-hand drive car. Carry out the procedure on the left-hand side of the car on right-hand drive vehicles.

- Take the short cable from the kit
- Pull the end with the loose terminal pins in under the headlamp
- Continue to pull the (1) cable along the right-hand side of the car, under the expansion tank down to the cowl panel
- Route the cable so that it is concealed and cannot be damaged or worn. Secure the cable so that it does not move.

Note! Ensure that the cable is not in contact with any moving components or too close to heat sources.

- Fold the carpet to one side.

Illustrations 55-58 show hole drilling from inside the passenger compartment on the right-hand side of the cowl panel.

- Take a screwdriver and pry away the rubber plate covering the hole in the cowl panel.

- Locate the hole for the rubber grommet. Make a small cut in the insulation panel starting just above the hole, continue to the center of the hole and then straight down.

- Push the carpet tabs to one side to access the hole in the cowl panel.

- Pierce holes through the engine compartment's heat insulation in order to mark holes for drilling in the heat insulation.

Applies to cars with fuel-driven parking heater
- Caution! Protect the coolant hose on the water pump's horizontal connection during hole-marking.

- Raise the car.
- Cut out a hole in the heat insulation that is approx. 20 mm (25/32".) larger than the size of the rubber grommet.

- Take the rubber grommet from the kit and cut the top off the smaller rubber nipples
- Lubricate the rubber grommet. Use low temperature grease (P/N 1161417).
- Thread the cable through the hole in the rubber grommet and then affix the rubber grommet in the hole in the cowl panel.

This step applies when the car has passenger compartment heater and when the existing rubber grommet is used
- Cut off the top of one of the smaller rubber nipples
- Thread the cable through the hole in the rubber grommet.

- Pull the cable out through the rubber grommet
- Take the connector from the kit.
- Undo the catch.
- Install the cable end pins in the connector.
1. Blue (Blue, BL)
2. Green (Green, GN)
3. Violet (Violet, VO)
4. Yellow (Yellow, Y)
5. White (White, W)
6. Black (Black, SB)
- Press back the connector's catch.

- Connect the long cable to the newly prepared connector.

- Route the cable under the sills along the existing cable harness.
- Position the cable so that is does not get trapped or damaged.

- Route the cable along the existing cable harness backwards and into the cargo compartment.
- Position the cable so that is does not get trapped or damaged.

This step applies to right-hand drive cars.
- Route the cable over to the right-hand side of the car and further back along the existing cable harness backwards and into the cargo compartment.
- Position the cable so that is does not get trapped or damaged.

- Route the cable alongside the car's cable harness.

- Connect the routed cable to the vacant connection on the parking assistance module (PAM).

Note! Make sure that the connector clicks into place and is properly secured.

Note! Do not handle the surfaces of the sensors to be painted.

- Let the left-hand outer sensor with cable hang loose alongside, do not secure it yet.
- Hold the bumper up against the car and plug the sensor cable connector into the connector on the car.
- Secure the assembled connector on the member (1). Use a tie strap on each side of the connector
- Slide the bumper cover into the correct position
- Press the loose sensor into the sensor holder from underneath the car.
- Reinstall the fog lamp connectors if the car is so equipped.
- Reinstall the bumper and engine splash guard by repeating steps 31-37 in reverse.

- Paint the sensors and holders using the same color code paint as the car. Use paint recommended by Volvo. Apply a maximum of two coats and protect surrounding parts with cardboard or similar.
- When the paint has dried, remove the protective backing paper.

Caution! Too many layers of paint may result in partial or complete malfunction of the sensors.
