Oil Pump: Service and Repair






Oil pump

Preparatory work

Removing the timing belt
Remove the cambelt as shown:

Removal

Removing the crankshaft pulley





Caution! The crankshaft must not rotate.

Use: 999 5304 SEPARATOR 999 5304 Separator. And the 2 pcs. M8 screws, with washers. Pull off the timing gear pulley.

Replacing the front crankshaft seal
Remove the old seal using a grooving chisel or 999 5919 PULLER 999 5919 Puller.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque

Cleaning

Note! When cleaning work around the shaft journal, not in and out. It is essential that any residue from the emery cloth and any other contaminants are completely removed before the new seal ring is installed.

To clean the shaft journal and mating surface, use emery cloth P/N 951 1024.

Installing the crankshaft seal





Caution! Make sure that the crankshaft does not rotate when removed.

Lubricate the crankshaft seal's mating surfaces against the crankshaft using Volvo quality engine oil. Install the crankshaft seal. Use: 999 5455 PUNCH 999 5455 Punch. Press in the tool together with the crankshaft seal using the crankshaft's center nut.

Removing the oil pump





Remove:
- the belt guard from the oil pump
- the 4 oil pump screws. Carefully work the oil pump out. Use a groove-cut chisel with stop lugs. Carefully pull the oil pump past the end of the crankshaft. Carefully clean the gasket faces and mating surfaces.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. Tightening Torque

Cleaning

To clean the crankshaft journal and mating surface, use emery cloth P/N 951 1024.

Installing the oil pump




Use a new gasket and a new O-ring around the oil pump housing.
Bolt down the sliding sleeve on the crankshaft journal. Use: 999 5747 Socket 999 5747 Socket. Press in the pump over the sliding sleeve. Lubricate the screws for the oil pump with thread sealant, part no. 11 61 056.
Install the screws as a guide. Carefully tap in the oil pump with a rubber mallet. Tighten the oil pump crosswise. Tighten. See: Tightening torque, B5254T7 Tightening Torque
Remove the sliding sleeve. Use: 999 5747 Socket 999 5747 Socket

Installing the crankshaft timing gear pulley





Note! The timing gear pulley can only be installed in one position on the crankshaft journal (see the illustration).

Carefully tap in the timing gear pulley with a rubber mallet.

Install the timing belt according to:

Checks
Start the engine. Check operation and check for leakage. Take corrective action if required.
