Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil pan
Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Preparatory work
Removing components
Remove:
- the screws for the intake manifold between the air cleaner module and front panel
- the intake manifold
- the screw for the dipstick pipe
- the dipstick pipe. Raise the vehicle
- the right-hand front wheel
- the right-hand fender apron panel. Remove the screws at the front edge, 6, and the plastic nut. Bend the fender apron panel back.
Removal
Removing components from under the engine
Remove:
- the splashguard under the engine.
Note! Clear up any oil spillage using paper.
- the screws for the oil cooling system. Hang the oil cooling system in an appropriate way using a cable tie or similar. Remove the oil plug. Drain the engine oil.
Only applies to turbocharged vehicles
Remove the charge air pipe under the engine.
Removing power steering pipe
Position a drip pan under the power steering pump.
Remove:
- the pressure pipe from the pump
Caution! Seal the openings.
- the return hose from the pump
- the brace to the servo pipe in the engine and remove the screws in the engine.
Removing the servo pipe bracket
Remove the two screws. Push the hose assembly to one side and suspend it from a suitable place.
Removing the A/C compressor
Remove:
- the outer accessory drive belt. Use: 999 7109 Wrench 999 7109 Wrench
- the inner accessory drive belt using a torx socket
- the screws to the air conditioning compressor. Suspend the air conditioning compressor in the radiator member.
Removing the oil pan
Slacken off all the screws holding the oil pan. Remove all but four screws. It is recommended that the four screws in the corners of the pan are left in place.
Carefully tap the pan using a rubber mallet until the joint and its liquid gasket releases. Remove the four remaining screws. Remove the pan.
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque
Cleaning
Warning! Use a fume hood or extractor when using gasket solvent!
Clean the gasket plane on the oil pan and engine block. Use a razor blade or plastic scraper together with gasket solvent 1161 440.
Installing the oil pan
Apply liquid gasket 1161 059-9 to the pan. Use roller 951 1205 951 1205 Tool.
Install:
- newO-rings and use a little grease to ensure that the O-rings are retained.
- the oil pan. Secure it loosely with a few screws
- the remaining screws loosely.
Tightening the oil pan, continued
Press the pan against the transaxle. Tighten the screws (1, 2, 3 and 4) to 3 Nm. Tighten the screws (5) first to 25 Nm and then to 48 Nm.
Tighten all screws in the pan's screwed joint. Start at the transmission and continue forward in pairs.
Installing the oil cooler
Install the oil cooler to the oil pan. Use new O-rings and tighten the screws.
Installing the A/C compressor
Install:
- the air conditioning compressor. Tighten the screws
Caution! Make sure the belts are properly seated in the grooves.
- the inner and outer accessory drive belt. Use: 999 7109 Wrench 999 7109 Wrench
Installing power steering pipe
Install:
- the oil pressure pipe to the servo pump, do not tighten
Caution! Remove the seals.
- the return line for the servo reservoir
- the screws for the bracket with the servo pipe in the engine and tighten
- the bracket in the accessory drive belt bracket and tighten the screws. Tighten the pressure line in the servo pump.
Installing components
Install:
- the right fender liner
- the right-hand front wheel. See: Wheels Service and Repair
- the splashguard under the engine. Lower the vehicle.
Finishing
Filling with engine oil
Install:
- the oil dipstick pipe. Use a new O-ring
- the intake manifold between the front plate and the air cleaner module.
Fill new engine oil as specified: Oil filter, B5254T7 Service and Repair.
Check the level with the dipstick
Checks
Start the engine and check for oil leakage.
Stop the engine and give the oil time to run down into the oil trough. Then check the oil level.
Top up if needed, but do not overfill.
