NOTE!
THIS DOCUMENT SUPERSEDES THE PREVIOUS TNN 83-42, DATED 10-1-2007. AN END CHASSIS LIMIT HAS BEEN ADDED. THE METHOD HAS ALSO BEEN COMPLETELY REVISED, NO DRILLING IS NECESSARY. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR FILES.

DESCRIPTION:
It has been discovered that the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) cable harness to Hall Sensor # 6 may have an incorrect routing at the rear roof panel. During the opening or closing sequence the cable may get crushed between the mechanism and the rear roof panel, resulting in an interrupted roof function.

SERVICE:
Inspect, reposition and if necessary repair the cable harness according to the following instructions.

Preparation

Operate the roof to the service position.

The area of the harness location is highlighted here.

Cable Inspection

Inspect the cable sheathing and wires within for damage.

If the wires within have been damaged; repair the wires according to VIDA:
- Information
- Repair
- Cleaning, Inspection and Adjustment
- 3 Electrical system
- 37 Cables and fuses
- 371 cables
- Wiring
- Joining cables

Once the wires have been checked / repaired wrap the sheathing with electrical tape for protection.

Separate Rear Panel from RHT mechanism

With a white or silver colored marker; mark the position of the two left-hand side mounting nuts on the RHT mechanism as shown.

NOTE:
The nut has a collar (washer attached).

If shims are present note the position and how many.

The marking is so the panel can be reinstalled in the same position later.

Mark the position of the two mounting nuts for the rear roof panel identified here.

Once the nut positions are marked, remove them.

Rerouting the cable harness
Lift up the panel to separate from the mechanism.

Reposition the cable harness between the panel and the mechanism as illustrated and lower the panel back into position.

Assembly
Once the panel has been lowered onto the mechanism install the nuts and hand tighten.

Align the nut (collar) with your mark on the mechanism and tighten to 18 lb.ft. (24 Nm).

Test operation of the RHT and check alignment of the rear panel with the surrounding components.
