Body - Retractable Hard Top Maintenance Service

DESCRIPTION:
The Supplemental Information sheet included with the Warranty and Service Records Information for the All New Volvo C70 states "Inspect Convertible Hardtop and replace Rubber Bumpers" every 15,000 miles (24,000 km). The specific service procedures are currently not in VIDA, but will be added to a future edition of VIDA.These additional service steps are included in order to reduce the possibility of customer complaints related to the retractable hardtop.

In the meantime, the Service method below should be performed at every 15,000 mile (24,000 km) service interval on all Model Year 2006 and newer C70's. Refer to VIDA for any repairs or adjustments needed beyond the checks in this TNN.




MATERIAL:

SERVICE:




1. Rubber stop replacement

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Replace the rubber stops, kit part no. 30787392 (the kit contains four rubber stops - two for each side of the vehicle).




2. Shim removal
Position: roof partially open as illustrated.Remove and discard the shims (if not already removed), see illustration.

NOTE: Remove and discard shims from both sides of the vehicle.

Check the function by operating the roof for 3 complete cycles (open 3 times and close 3 times).




3. Check of headlining wires

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Check that the wires (blue lines in illustration) are not damaged.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




4. Check of wiring harness

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Check that the wiring harness is not damaged. Pay special attention to area marked in illustration on both sides of the vehicle.




5. Check of the rear roof plate moldings

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Check that moldings are in position and are secure, see illustration.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




6. Check of the rear roof plate moldings, continued

Check the position, which should be 50 mm (2 in.) from forward edge, see illustration.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




7. Check of rubber stops

Position: roof open, trunk open, roof stack raised as illustrated.

Check that rubber stops are in position and are secure, see illustration.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




8. Check of wires and hoses
Position: roof closed, trunk open from rear as illustrated.Check on both sides that the wires and hydraulic hoses are properly fastened and that there are no visible damages.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




9. Check of protective casing (plastic loom), wires and hydraulic hoses
Position: roof closed, trunk open as illustrated. Check the position and function of the wiring guard (plastic loom).

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




10. Check of rubber support

Position: roof closed, trunk open as illustrated.

Check the position and check for wear.

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




11. Check of adjuster screw

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Hang a piece of paper from each adjuster screw.

NOTE: Do this on both sides of the vehicle.




12. Check of adjuster screw, continued
Raise roof to closed position.
Open the trunk lid and pull the paper free.

If the screw is properly tensioned, the paper should break. Remove all pieces of paper.

NOTE: Perform check on both sides of the vehicle.




13. Check of trunk lid

Position: roof closed, trunk lid closed, as illustrated.Check the height of the trunk lid at the rear roof plate, see illustration.

Use a vernier caliper to measure from the top of the trunk lid. The measurement specification should be 34 mm +/- 2 mm (1 3/8" +/- 5/64").

NOTE: Check both sides of the vehicle.




14. Greasing

Position: roof partially open as illustrated.

Use grease, part no. 1161778, at (1). It is important that the entire roller, including ends, is covered with grease. Note! Grease both sides of the vehicle.

Clean any residual grease from vinyl / rubber surfaces.

NOTE: This TNN represents an additional 0.2 hrs labor time to the 15,000 service for C70.
