SUBJECT: Rear Seat Storage Compartment Lid; Repair
DESCRIPTION:
If the customer complains about the rear seat storage lid operation; check to see if the cover has a broken hook. We have discovered that the panel lid hooks may break due to incorrect molding on the vehicles listed above.
SERVICE:
On both rear seat storage lids, remove old storage lid hooks and replace with new according to the following pages.
Repairing hooks
NOTE: This method covers both the left and right-hand side and contains one left and right-hand hook bar.
Gently open the lid completely by pressing it past the stop so that the lid opens to the horizontal position.
1. On the inside of the cover panel; cut off both hooks using cutting pliers.
2. With a small file; carefully file down the material so that the mating surface becomes smooth, see image in steps 3 and 4.
3. Example of mating surface.
4. Test fit the hook bar. Ensure that it lies flat against the mating surface and the tabs fit around the panel lid tab, see picture.
NOTE: Make sure you have the correct hook bar for each side. The tabs of the bar should be toward the front of the car.
5. Clean the mating surfaces on the lid and the hook bar using rubbing alcohol.
CAUTION: Make sure the surfaces are dry before bonding.
6. Apply a thin bead of glue to the full length of the mating surface on the hook bar.
Be sure to also apply glue to the mating surface of the hooks and tabs as shown here.
7. Install the hook bar and apply pressure to hold in position for approximately 30 seconds.
Wait for five minutes.
Close the lid and check its function.
