Checking the Loudspeakers and Loudspeaker Wiring
Checking the loudspeakers and loudspeaker wiring
Fault-tracing information
Hint: Check that the volume is not turned down. Turn the VOLUME knob on the climate control module (CCM). Also check that the balance is set evenly between all the speakers using the SELECTOR knob.
The loudspeakers may stop playing back sound from a particular sound source, for example the MD and CD players or the radio.
Causes of the problem may be:
- Open-circuit in the signal cable between the audio module (AUD) and the loudspeaker
- Damaged loudspeaker
- Oxidation in the terminal pins in the connectors
- Problems with the MOST network
- Defective control module.
Hint: If there is no sound from any of the loudspeakers, check that the 16-pin connector on the audio module (AUD) is correctly connected. If there is still no sound from the loudspeakers, the problem is not in the loudspeaker wiring.
Select an alternative
1. Loudspeakers front/center
2. Loudspeakers rear.
Which loudspeakers are not working?
1 - front/center loudspeakers
2 - rear doors
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the loudspeaker wiring, rear doors
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the 16-pin connector for the audio module (AUD)
- Disconnect the connectors for the rear loudspeakers.
Hint: There may be two speakers connected to these signal lines, one to the treble speaker and one to the rear speaker. For further information, see the wiring diagram.

Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B4 and speaker #2 left side rear for open circuit.
Check the resistance between terminals #B4 and #B12 in the connector for the audio module (AUD). The resistance must be infinite.
Checking lead to speaker, right side rear
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B13 and speaker #1 right side rear for open circuit.
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B5 and speaker #2 right side rear for open circuit.
Check the resistance between terminals #B5 and #B13 in the connector for the audio module (AUD). The resistance must be infinite.
Remedy as necessary.

Checking the cable, front/center loudspeakers
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the 16-pin connector for the audio module (AUD)
- Disconnect the connectors for the front loudspeakers
- Disconnect the connector for the center loudspeaker if it is connected.
Note! Only some audio systems have center loudspeakers connected. If the center loudspeaker is not connected do not perform fault-tracing for the center loudspeaker.
Hint: There may be two speakers connected to the same signal line, one to the treble speaker/upper speaker and one to the speaker in the door.
Checking the cable
Check the cable terminals on the loudspeaker cable. Check for contact resistance, loose connections and oxidation. Check the cable terminals in the female and male sections of the connector. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back.
Checking lead to speaker, left door
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B9 and speaker #1 in left door for open circuit.
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B1 and speaker #2 in left door for open circuit.
Check the resistance between terminals #B1 and #B9 in the connector for the audio module (AUD). The resistance must be infinite.
Checking lead to speaker, right door
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B3 and speaker #2 in right door for open circuit.
Check the lead between Audio module (AUD) #B11 and speaker #1 in right door for open circuit.
Check the resistance between terminals #B3 and #B11 in the connector for the audio module (AUD). The resistance must be infinite.
Checking the cable for the center loudspeaker
