Faulty Signal
Faulty signal
Checking the status
- Ignition on.
Activate the rear windshield defroster.
Check if the fault is permanent or intermittent.
The rear windshield defroster relay clicks when it is activated.
The fault is permanent if the rear windshield defroster does not activate.
If the rear windshield defroster is activated, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but that it is not active at the moment, i.e. the fault is intermittent.

Checking the component and wiring
- Ignition off.
Check that relay 2/82 is correctly installed.
Also check the relay terminal, in particular 2/82 terminal #2. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
It is not possible to deactivate the tailgate wiper if there is a short-circuit to ground in terminal 2/82#2.
Hint: The fault may have been caused by an open-circuit in the supply to the relay. The voltage must be 12 V at both terminals #1 and #3 for the relay. Also check the fuse for the rear windshield defroster.
Remedy as necessary.
