Function test
- Activate the smart tool for reading off the status of the tailgate switch for opening the tailgate
- Press the switch for opening the tailgate. Check that the status changes
The switch status must be "Activated" when the switch is pressed in and "Not activated" when the button is not pressed in.
Hint: If the switch status is activated when the switch is not pressed in, the fault is either in the switch or in the cable from the switch to the central electronic module (CEM).

- Ignition off.
Disconnect the connector at the switch for opening the tailgate. Check whether the switch has stuck in the activated position by taking a reading using an ohmmeter between terminals #A1 and #A3. If the switch is defective: replace switch.
Check the connection between the switch for opening the tailgate and central electronic module (CEM) terminal #F22 (#22). Check for a short-circuit to ground. Also check the cable between the switch and ground. Check for an open-circuit.
Remedy the cables as necessary
