Preparation
Only applies to diesel engines:
Remove the engine cover.
Steering shaft joint lower removing
Fold the floor carpet out of the way.
Bend up the outer section of the steering shaft boot.
Remove the retaining clip around the boot.
Pull the boot up.
Remove:
- the screw securing the mounting for the steering shaft in the joint
- the joint from the steering shaft.
Removing the upper torque rod
Remove:
- the mounting screws for the torque rod
- the screw and nut for the engine mounting and torque rod
- the engine stabilizer brace.
Removing the upper nut for the engine pad
Remove the nut.
Installing lifting tools
Install lifting tool 999 5716 Reading off tool 999 5716 Reading Off Tool converted with kit 999 7070 Mounting 999 7070 Mounting. Install lifting hooks 999 5460 Lifting hook 999 5460 Lifting Hook.
Lift the engine to relieve the load on the engine pads.
Removing the right engine mounting
Remove the right-hand front wheel. Detach the right-hand lower front section of the fender liner.
Remove:
- the plastic nuts on the fender liner
- the protective plate.
Bend out the fender liner.
Remove both the right hand engine mounting screws.
Removing the splash guard under engine
Remove the splash guard under the engine.
Removing the skid plate
Remove the 6 screws.
Lift and slide the splash guard forward.
Remove the protective plate.
Note! There is a guide sleeve on the upper mounting for the plate. This must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.
Removing the SIPS member
Remove:
- the four mounting screws
- the brake pipe from the snap fastener on the member
- The SIPS member.
Removing the exhaust mounting
Remove the rubber mountings for the exhaust pipe.
Removing the engine pad screw
Remove the screw for the engine pad mounting in the steering gear.
Lowering the sub-frame
Position a mobile jack with universal plate 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture at the rear of the sub-frame.
Remove the following on both sides:
- the two screws holding the sub-frame bracket in the body
- the rear screw for the sub-frame with the bracket and washer.
Carefully lower the sub-frame until dimension A between the sub-frame and the body is 110 mm.
Removing the engine cover
Remove the engine pad.
Tightening torque
For correct tightening torques, see Tightening torque, B6324S Tightening Torque.
Installing the engine pad
Position the engine pad in the upper seat.
Note! Ensure that the guide pin for the engine pad locates correctly.
Hold the engine pad in position. Carefully raise the sub-frame.
Note! Guide in the steering shaft joint whilst raising the sub-frame.
Install the screw for the engine pad mounting in the steering gear. M10.
Installing the sub-frame
Install on both sides:
- the bracket
- the two screws for the mounting bracket. M10
- the screw for the sub-frame mounting. Use a new screw.
For tightening torques, see Specifications, B6324S Tightening Torque.
Installing the exhaust mounting
Install the rubber mountings for the exhaust pipe.
Hint: Use soap solution to facilitate installing the rubber mountings.
Installing the SIPS member
Install:
- the brake pipe in the snap fastener on the member
- the SIPS member
- the four screws for the SIPS (side impact protection system ) member mounting. M8.
Installing the skid plate
Move the skid plate up in to the bumper cover strip. Press forwards until the mounting brackets engage in the sub-frame.
Install:
- the six screws. M10
- the splash guard under the engine. M8.
Installing the right-hand engine mounting
Install the two screws for the right-hand engine mounting. Use new screws.
Fold the fender liner back into position
Install:
- the skid plate
- the plastic nuts
- the front wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.

Removing lifting tools
Remove lifting tool 999 5716 Reading off tool 999 5716 Reading Off Tool , kit 999 7070 Mounting 999 7070 Mounting and lifting hooks 999 5460 Lifting hook 999 5460 Lifting Hook.
Installing the upper nut for the engine pad
Install a new nut. M10.
Hint: Use a magnetic sleeve or trap the nut using a wad of paper in the sleeve to facilitate installation.
Installing the upper torque rod
Install:
- the engine stabilizer brace
- the four mounting screws for the torque rod. M10
- the screw and nut for the engine mounting and torque rod. M12.
Steering shaft joint lower installing
Install the steering shaft on the lower steering shaft joint.
Install:
- the new screw. M8
- the steering shaft boot and snap ring.
Fold back the carpet.
Finishing
Only applies to diesel engines:
Install the engine cover.
