Checking the Headsets Rear Seat Entertainment, Generation 3.2
Checking the headsets
Fault-tracing information
If the headsets do not function the fault could be due to:
- The headsets (Infra-red receiver in the headsets)
- Damaged IR-transmitter/head rest.
- Cable harness between control module rear sound separation and IR-transmitter/head rest.

Checking the headsets
Checking the settings
Check that the volume has not been turned down via VOLUME on the remote control or that the volume on the relevant headset has not been turned down.
Check that the sound source for the selected headset channel and the headsets are on.
Check that it is only the headsets that do not function. In the event of the control module rear audio separation not functioning, the rear loudspeakers will not function either.
Checking the infra-red transmitter/head restraint and infra-red receiver/headsets
Check that the infra-red transmitter/head restraint is not obstructed.
Also check that the receiver in the headsets is not obstructed.
Hint: In certain cases moisture can impair infra-red signal reception.
Checking the settings
Check that the headsets have been selected in the menu system.
Check that the correct channel has been selected. Check that the volume has been turned up.
Checking the headsets
Check the headset batteries.
Check to see if the other headset functions. If this is the case the headsets are defective.
Checking the IR transmitter
Check that the IR-transmitter, on the underside of one of the head rests, is not concealed or damaged. When the IR-transmitter is active a weak glow shall be seen from the transmitter's diodes.
Checking cables to IR-transmitter
Check the connector on the control module for rear audio separation terminal #B.
Check the wiring between the infra-red transmitter/head restraint terminals #1-4 and the control module for rear audio separation terminals #B1 to #B4.
Hint: terminal #B1 is for the power supply and terminal #B4 is ground. The infra-red signal is transmitted between #B2 and #B3.
If no malfunction is found on the cables, try replacing the IR-transmitter.
Remedy as necessary.
