Checking Sound Cables, Rear Seat Entertainment, Generation 3.2
Checking the wiring for the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE)
Fault-tracing information
If no sound is heard from the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE) system but the sound system in general, the car radio for example, otherwise functions, the fault could be due to:
- Supply/fuse for the control module for rear audio separation
- Supply/fuse for the rear seat entertainment module (RSE)
- Wiring from the ordinary sound system of the car
- The wiring between the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) and the control module for rear audio separation
- Rear seat entertainment module (RSE).

Checking the settings
Check that the volume has not been turned down via the remote control menu system SPEAKERS. Also check that there is no sound from the rear speakers or from the headsets for the system. Check that the fault does not only occur when a specific sound source is selected.
Checking the power supply to the control module for rear audio separation
Check that the fuses for the control module rear audio separation are intact. Check that power is supplied to the fusebox and ground terminal for the control module.
Hint: The control module is supplied with power via terminals #A1 and #A4 and grounded via terminal #A13.
Checking the power supply to the rear seat entertainment module (RSE)
In addition check the fuses for rear seat entertainment module (RSE) in the same way.
Hint: The control module is supplied with power via terminals #B1, #B4 and #B6. The control module is grounded via terminal #B12.
Checking the input signals to the control module for rear audio separation from the standard audio system of the car
Sound is received by the control module for rear audio separation from the connections where the rear loudspeakers are normally mounted on a standard car without a rear seat entertainment module (RSE). Check the following cables between the terminals and the control module for rear audio separation:
- Left-hand loudspeaker terminal #A23 (Amplifier L-)
- Left-hand loudspeaker terminal #A12 (Amplifier L+)
- Right-hand loudspeaker terminal #A21 (Amplifier R-)
- Right-hand loudspeaker terminal #A22 (Amplifier R+).

Audio signals function description
The sound from the DVD or auxiliary input (AUX) source, for example, is connected between each source and the control module. The control module separates the desired sound source in two channels according to the wishes of the passengers. (This makes it possible to listen to different sources in the rear seat).
Channel 1 applies to passengers on the left-hand and channel 2 applies to passengers on the right-hand side. In addition there is an audio signal for each ear which achieves a stereo effect.
Checking signals
Check the audio cable between the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) (terminal #C) and the control module for rear audio separation (terminal #A).
- Check the audio cable for channel 1, left ear. This is the cable between control module terminal #C2 and control module terminal #A5
- Check the audio cable for channel 1, right ear. This is the cable between control module terminal #C1 and control module terminal #A6
- Check the audio cable for channel 2, left ear. This is the cable between control module terminal #C5 and control module terminal #A3
- Check the audio cable for channel 2, right ear. This is the cable between control module terminal #C4 and control module terminal #A2
- In addition there is a ground connection for the audio signals Check the ground lead for the audio signal between control module terminal #C12 and control module terminal #A15.
Control module for rear audio separation and speaker wiring
Check the function of the sound system. Check that both headsets function correctly. If the sound system functions, the control module for rear audio separation is receiving the correct signals from the control module.
The fault is probably in the loudspeaker wiring for the rear loudspeakers or in the control module for rear audio separation.
Remedy as necessary.
