Checking components and wiring
Check the cable between connector B to phone module (PHM) and the SIM-card reader's connector for open circuit.
Check between:
- control module's connector B#1 (#21) and SIM-card reader's connector #1.
- control module's connector B#2 (#22) and SIM-card reader's connector #2.
- control module's connector B#3 (#3) and SIM-card reader's connector #3.
- control module's connector B#4 (#4) and SIM-card reader's connector #4.
- control module's connector B#5 (#5) and SIM-card reader's connector #5.
- control module's connector B#6 (#6) and SIM-card reader's connector #6.
Check the connectors for loose connections, damaged or bent pins as well as oxidation.
If no malfunction was found on the cable, try replacing the SIM-card reader.
Remedy as necessary.

Checking the SIM card reader
Checking the component and wiring
If there is a open-circuit or short-circuit in the wiring, faulty SIM card reader or connector, the phone module (PHM) will not be able to communicate with the SIM card. The user will be asked to insert a SIM card even though there is already a card in the reader.
Checking the connectors, wiring and components
Try a different SIM card to check whether the problem is with that particular card.
Disconnect connector A at the phone module (PHM) and the connector for the SIM card reader. Check the wiring. Check for an open-circuit by taking readings between:
- control module connector A terminal #9 (#9) and SIM card reader connector terminal #1
- control module connector A terminal #8 (#8) and SIM card reader connector terminal #2
- control module connector A terminal #7 (#7) and SIM card reader connector terminal #3
- control module connector A terminal #19 (#19) and SIM card reader connector terminal #5.
Check the wiring in the cable harness. Check for a short-circuit to each other.
Check the wiring in the cable harness. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Check the connectors for loose connections, damaged or bent terminal pins and oxidation.
