Backup Lamp Switch: Service and Repair






Back-up lamp switch, replacing

Preparatory work

Removing the gear selector cables
Ignition off.
Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing and the gear selector cables from the levers and the bracket on the gearbox. See Gearbox cables, replacing Gearbox Cables, Replacing.

Note! Ensure that the mechanical cables do not crack or break.

Removal

Removing the bracket for the gear selector cables




Remove the bracket from the gearbox.




Clean thoroughly around the connectors.
Remove the connector and the back-up lamp switch from the gearbox.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Specifications.

Installing back-up lamp switch
Install the back-up lamp switch. Tighten. See Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the leads




Install the cables in the connector with the opening for the primary lock facing up as illustrated. Press in the secondary lock.

Joining cables
Splice the new connector with cables to the existing wiring. See: Joining the cables Joining the Cables

Installing connectors




Install the connector with cables on the back-up lamp switch.
Install a tie-strap as illustrated so that the cable harness is not in contact with the gear selector cable.




Install the bracket on the gearbox using the 3 M8 screws. Tighten.

Finishing

Installing the gear selector cables
Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing and the gear selector cables. See Gearbox cables, replacing Gearbox Cables, Replacing.
