Checking the Damper Motor Control (Electronic Climate Control (ECC)/Manual Climate Control (MCC)

Checking the damper motor control (Electronic climate control (ECC)/Manual climate control (MCC))

Query
Which type of climate control is the car equipped with?
1. Electronic climate control
2. Manual climate control (MCC)/Standard (STD).

Select one of the above alternatives.

1 - Checking the damper motor signal

2 - Checking the damper motor control

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the damper motor signal

- Ignition on
- Blower fan on
- Activate the damper motors using the knobs and buttons.
Read off the positions for the different damper motors. The values listed below should be seen as guidelines for the positions which the damper motors should reach.
- Right and left temperature damper motor and defroster, 0 - 100%
- Recirculation damper motor, 40 - 100%
- Floor and ventilation damper motor, floor only approximately 39%, vent only approximately 87%, both floor and vent approximately 71%.

Are the positions OK?

Yes - Checking the matrix voltage

No - Replacing the climate control module

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the matrix voltage
- Ignition off
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
Activate the damper motors and listen to hear if the motors move.

Hint: If none of the motors move, one or more voltage supply cables is disconnected.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access or replace the climate control module, see Climate control module (CCM), replacing Service and Repair
- To access or replace the damper motors, see Damper motor temperature, replacing Damper Motor Temperature, Replacing , Damper motor recirculation, replacing Damper Motor Recirculation, Replacing and Damper motor defroster, replacing Damper Motor Defroster, Replacing.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - Self-adjustment

No - Checking components and wiring

-------------------------------------------------

Checking components and wiring

Note! The check covers one or more of the affected damper motors. The damper motor(s) affected by this fault-tracing should be apparent from previous checks.

Check the resistance of the windings in the damper motor(s). For the resistance values, see Component resistance values Electrical Specifications.
Check the linkage and damper for wear and check that they do not stick.

Continue - Self-adjustment

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the climate control module
Replace the climate control module according to Climate control module (CCM), replacing Service and Repair.

Continue - Self-adjustment

-------------------------------------------------

Self-adjustment

Hint: After replacing the control module or damper motor, and when a damper motor or link has been removed, carry out self adjustment to define the damper motor limit positions.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
Activate self adjustment.

Continue - Verification

Verification

Hint: After the repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.

- Ignition off.
- Connect the connectors, install the components, etc.
- Ignition on.
- Blower motor on.
Check that damper motor position changes by changing control on climate control module (CCM). The values given below are the standard values that the damper motor positions should give.

Note! Blower motor must be in operation to activate the damper motors.

- Left/right temperature damper motor and defroster, 0-100%
- Recirculation damper motor, 40-100%
- Floor/ventilation damper motor, floor only approximately 39%, ventilation only approximately 87% and floor/ventilation approximately 71%.

Does damper motor work?

Yes - Troubleshooting procedure complete

No - Fault-tracing information

-------------------------------------------------

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit Fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
