Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
Compressor, replacing

Preparatory work
Important information

Note! When replacing a compressor, always replace the O-rings in pipes and quick-release connectors.
Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.
Preparatory work
Disconnect the battery negative lead. See: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.
Removal
Removing compressor
Remove the auxiliaries belt from the compressor. Service and Repair
Note the route of the belt.
Remove the screws for the low and high pressure hoses for the compressor.
Note! Position the front lift arms so that they do not obstruct the sub-frame support plates.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove:
- the protective cover under the engine
- the 2 x screws for the front splash guard. Press in the cover by pressing in the catches at the front edge. Pull the cover backwards.
Remove the screw for the cable conduit. Remove the conduit from the sub-frame.
Detach the air duct for the control module box from the sub-frame.
Unscrew the low and high pressure hoses from the compressor and bend them to one side.
Disconnect the connector from the magnetic clutch for the compressor.
Remove the 4 x screws from the compressor.
Hold the cable conduit to one side. Remove the compressor from between the sub-frame and the body.
Installation
Installing the compressor
Note! For tightening torques, see: [1][2]Body and Frame
If necessary, top up the compressor oil. See: Oil Air Conditioning (A/C) System, Filling
Hold the cable conduit to one side. Install the compressor between the sub-frame and the body.
Install the mounting screws and tighten.
Note! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.
Install:
- the low and high pressure hoses. On certain models it may be easier to install and tighten the screws from above.
- the magnetic clutch connector.
Install:
- the cable conduit on the sub-frame. Tighten.
- the air duct on the control module box on the sub-frame.
Install:
- the protective cover under the engine
- the front splash guard.
Lower the vehicle.
Install the auxiliaries belt. Service and Repair
Finishing
Install the battery negative lead according to: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
Vacuum pump side. See: Vacuum pumping Vacuum Pumping.
Fill the system with refrigerant. See: Refrigerant, filling Refrigerant, Filling.
