Luggage / Roof Rack: Service and Repair

Rails, replacing

As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removing rails

Remove:
- the front and the rear cover by pulling them to the side so that the lug (3) releases. Pull forwards.

- the center cover by grasping the lower corner and pulling up at an angle and to the side (4).

- the 5 screws on each side
- the 3 rubber seals on each side
- the 3 small foam seals on each side
- 1 large foam seal from each side and the center foot.

Note! The foam seals and the screws must be replaced during installation. Replace the rubber seals if necessary.

Installing rails

Install:
- the 3 rubber seals on each side
- the 3 small foam seals on each side
- 1 large foam seal each side at the center mounting.

Note! Ensure that the foam seals are completely undamaged.

Install:
- the center mounting but do not tighten the screw
- the front and the rear mounting but do not tighten the screws
- the 5 screws on each side. See Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame.
Check that the screw threads engage.

Note! Do not over tighten. The gasket may no longer seal correctly.

Hint: Tighten the screws in two stages to prevent misalignment.

Install the 3 covers.
