Gear selector lever assembly, reconditioning

Removal

Removing the center console

Remove:
- the S60R center console (B5254T4 engine). See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing
- the S60 center console. See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (-2004) or: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (2005-)
- the V70 center console. See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (-2004) or: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (2005-)
- the V70XC/XC70 center console. See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (-2004) or: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (2005-).

Removing the gear selector assembly and cables
Remove the gear selector assembly and cables from the XC90. See: and on the S60 and V70. See: Transmission cables, replacing, B5244T5, M66 Service and Repair.

Removing components from the gear selector assembly





Remove:
- the catch for the bevel arm
- bevel arm with bushing and spring
- the cover for the gear selector lever ball joint. Pull up the ball joint, gear selector lever and rubber sleeve from the gear selector assembly
- the solenoid.

Removing the old link caps from the gear selector lever




Install a new link cap.
Lubricate the new link cap. Use grease, P/N 116 1241-3.

Installation

Lubricating and installing components in the gear selector assembly




Lubricate the gear selector lever ball joints and bevel arm bushings. Use grease, P/N 116 1241-3.

Install:
- the rubber sleeve
- the gear selector lever with ball joints and cover
- the bevel arm with bushings, spring and retaining clip
- the solenoid.

Installing the cables and gear selector assembly
Install the cables and the gear selector assembly on the XC90. See: and on the S60 and V70. See: Transmission cables, replacing, B5244T5, M66 Service and Repair.

Installing the center console

Install:
- the S60R center console (B5254T4 engine). See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing
- the S60 center console. See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (-2004) or: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (2005-)
- the V70 center console. See: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (-2004) or: Center console, replacing Center Console, Replacing (2005-)
