Bushing front lateral link, replacing

Special tools:

Removal

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparations




Remove the parking brake cable mounting in the sub-frame on both sides.

Remove:
- the exhaust system from the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and backward. See Exhaust system, replacing Service and Repair
- the wheel.

Applies only to All-wheel drive (AWD):
Remove the propeller shaft from the viscous coupling / Active on Demand Coupling.

Lowering the rear suspension




Position a lifting table under the front section of the rear suspension.

Remove:
- the two mountings for the front sub-frame
- the sub-frame brackets screws
- the brake hose mounting stays from mountings on the brackets
- the brake pipes from the plastic clips
- the mounting for the fuel filter on the right bracket.
Lower the rear suspension.

Applies only to All-wheel drive (AWD):
Note! The propeller shaft detaches from the flange when lowering.

Disconnecting the lateral link




- Secure the lower control arm slightly against the jacking point. Use the retaining strap
- Remove the lateral link screw at the front bushing
- Turn the lateral link upwards and position a block between the stay and the sub-frame.

- Use tool 951 2923 Hydraulic hole cylinder 951 2923 Hydraulic Hole Cylinder and 999 7054 Adapter incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 999 7054 Adapter Incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 , 999 7032 Sleeve 999 7032 Sleeve , 999 7040 Drift 999 7040 Drift
- Install the hydraulic cylinder. Use threaded rod 999 7034 Connecting rod M12X400 999 7034 Connecting Rod M12X400.
- Pull the front bushing out.

Note! To ensure that there is no exhaust leakage, see: Flanged joint, assembling Flanged Joint, Assembling.




- Use tool 951 2923 Hydraulic hole cylinder 951 2923 Hydraulic Hole Cylinder with 999 7054 Adapter incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 999 7054 Adapter Incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 , 999 7032 Sleeve 999 7032 Sleeve , 999 7040 Drift 999 7040 Drift and999 7042 Drift 999 7042 Drift.
- Install the hydraulic cylinder. Use threaded rod 999 7034 Connecting rod M12X400 999 7034 Connecting Rod M12X400.
- Pull the front bushing.





Note! Ensure that the bushing is in the correct position.

Installing the lateral link

Install:
- the lateral link
- the screw for the front bushing. Do not tighten.
Remove the tensioner strap.

Installing the rear suspension
Carefully raise the rear suspension.

Warning! Always check that the car does not lift from the lifting arms of the car lift when working with the lifting table.

Note! Guide in the propeller shaft during lifting.

Note! Ensure that the brake pipes or cable harnesses are not trapped.

Installing the rear suspension (continued)
Install the screws for the front mountings on the sub-frame (install the screws through the brackets).
Tighten all the front mountings. Tighten to 80 Nm

Install:
- the brake pipes in the plastic clips on the brackets
- the screw for the fuel filter bracket. Tighten to 24 Nm
- the screw for the brake line mounting stay. Tighten to 24 Nm.
Remove the lifting table.
- Install the exhaust system. See Exhaust system, replacing Service and Repair.

Installing the lateral link (all-wheel drive (AWD) only)




- Install the propeller shaft in the viscous coupling / Active on Demand Coupling.
- Secure the control arms down. Use retaining straps
- Remove the screws for the shock absorber mounting
- Pull the shock absorber from its mounting
- Release the retaining strap
- Press the suspension up to its normal position, see Normal position Normal Position.

Tighten:
- the front mounting for the lateral link. Tighten to 80 Nm.

Install:
- the retaining strap and pull down the control arms so that the shock absorber can be installed
- the shock absorber
- the screw. Tighten to 80 Nm.
Remove the retaining strap.

Installing the lateral link (not all-wheel drive (AWD))
- Install tensioner and tension the rear suspension to the normal position. See Tensioner, instructions for use, M66, TF-80SC, AW55-50/51SN, M56 Tensioner, Instructions For Use
- Tighten the front mounting for the lateral link. Tighten to 80 Nm.

Finishing
- Install the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair
- Carry out wheel alignment.
Check/adjust the wheel alignment. See: Wheel alignment, checking / adjusting Service and Repair.
