Electrical engine block heater 110V
Preparations
- Remove the screw (1) from the left air baffle (2) for the front brake
- Pull the left air baffle backwards. Remove the left air baffle
- Remove the right air baffle in the same way.
- Remove the screws (1)
- Press in the catches (2) and pull the air baffle down/backwards. Remove the air baffle
- Remove the screws (3). Remove the splash guard.
- Remove the nut. Remove the wiper arm for the headlamp wash / wipe
- Disconnect the hose to the washer at the existing join
- Carefully pry off the parking lamp at the front edge using a plastic weatherstrip tool
- Disconnect the connector. Place the parking lamp to one side
- Repeat the operation on the other side.
- Remove the moulding under the headlamp. Use a weatherstrip tool.
Note! Do not damage the paint work.
- Repeat the operation on the other side.
- Press in the centre of the clips at the top edge of the bumper cover. Remove the clips
- Remove the covers in front of the lower screws for the bumper cover
- Remove the screws from the bumper cover.
- Press in the centre of the clip in the bottom edge / side of the bumper. Remove the clip
- Remove the screw in the top edge / rear edge of the bumper cover
- Repeat the operation on the other side
- Carefully pull the end of the bumper cover away from the bodywork. The bumper cover is secured with four catches on the inside at the top edge and two at the bottom edge
- Repeat the operation on the other side
- Detach the bumper cover by pulling it forwards. Disconnect the connectors to the fog lamps (if applicable).
Installing the front engine block heater socket
- Take the cable for the front engine block heater socket and the protective cover from the kit
- Thread the protective cover on to the cable.
- Take the holder for the connector from the kit. Press the connector into place in the bottom of the holder.
- Fold the cover over the connector. Press together so that the holes in the holder and cover align with each other.
- Take the mounting for the grille from the kit. Cut away the rectangular projection on the reverse of the mounting.
- Take the screw and nut from the kit. Secure the mounting to the holder and clamp.
- Insert the cable for the front engine block heater socket through the second hole from the top, at the far left of the grille
- Take the screw and the mounting plate from the kit. Install the front engine block heater socket. Slide the front engine block heater socket as far to the right as possible and then tighten.
- Insert the cable from the front engine block heater socket on the top and reverse of the collision member on the left-hand side of the radiator. Allow the cable to hang down
- Reinstall the bumper cover on the bodywork using screws and clips. Adjust the length of the cable at the front edge / left-hand side of the rubber seal
- Tighten the four M8 screws. Tighten to 24 Nm (18 lbf. ft.). Reinstall the covers.
- Route the cable at the bottom edge on the left-hand side of the radiator
- Clamp the cable at the radiator bracket using a tie strap from the kit.
Installing the heater
- Remove the draining nipple on the hose to the left of the oil cooler. Drain the coolant
- Remove the clamps (1) on the lower hose on the oil cooler. Remove the hose. Place the hose to one side. It will not reused.
- Remove the screw (1) in the bottom cover on the right front corner of the gearbox
- Tighten the small bracket (from the kit) using the screw to the gearbox as illustrated. Tighten the screw. Tighten to 10 Nm (7 lbf. ft).
- Install the hoses (from the kit) on the heater. Align the white markings (1) with each other as illustrated.
- Position the four hose clamps (from the kit) on the hoses and heater
- Tighten the hose clamp (1). Position the hose clamp (2) as illustrated. Tighten the hose to the oil cooler.
- Position the rubber coated clamp (1) (from the kit ) on the heater as illustrated.
- Install the heater with the hoses to the oil cooler pipe
- Take a blind rivet (1) from the kit. Blind rivet the rubber coated clamp with the heater to the bracket in the bottom cover of the gearbox
- Tighten the remaining hose clamps to the heater and oil cooler pipe.
- Route the previously routed cable for the front engine block heater socket above the front left corner of the sub-frame
- Grease the O-ring on the switch using low temperature grease, (P/N 1161417-9).
Note! Do not get any grease on the contact surfaces of the connector.
- Connect the cable connector to the connector on the engine block heater. Install a locking sleeve from the kit over the joint.
Warning! Never break the power supply to the engine block heater by disconnecting this connector.
- Tighten the cable as illustrated. Clamp the cable using a tie strap from the kit at position (1).
- Fill with coolant. Test drive the engine. Bleed the cooling system. Check for leakage
- Reinstall the engine splash guard. Tighten to 25 Nm (19 lbf. ft.)
- Connect the connectors to the fog lamps (if applicable)
- Reinstall the centre air baffle
- Reinstall the air baffles at the sides
- Reinstall the mouldings under the headlamps
- Reinstall the wiper arms for the headlamp wash / wipe. Connect the hoses to the washer
- Connect and reinstall the parking lamps.
