Checking the Fuel Gauge sensor
Checking the fuel gauge sensor
Checking the wires and connectors
Check the wires between:
fuel gauge sensor connector 5 and Rear Electronic Module (REM) A02 ( A2)
fuel gauge sensor connector 6 and Rear Electronic Module (REM) A10 ( A10)
fuel gauge sensor connector 7 and Rear Electronic Module (REM) A8 ( A8)
for an open circuit as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and short circuit to voltage supply as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Also check the connector involved for contact resistance and oxidation as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Do the necessary corrective action.

Is there a fault?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking the sensor resistance
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the sensor resistance
Check resistance of both fuel gauge sensors. The resistance across the respective sensor may vary between 12 ohm (full tank) and 383 ohm (empty tank).
Hint: The resistance of the left fuel gauge sensor can be measured between fuel gauge sensor connectors 5 and 6. The resistance of the right fuel gauge sensor can be measured between fuel gauge sensor connectors 6 and 7.
Do the necessary corrective action.
Additional information:
- For information about signals and other values, see Signal specification Signal Specification
- To access the fuel gauge sensor connector/replace fuel gauge sensors, see Left fuel gauge sensor Left Fuel Gauge Sensor and Right side fuel pump with level sensor Right Side Fuel Pump With Level Sensor.
Is there a fault?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking the floats and wires
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the floats and wires
Check that the floats in the fuel gauge sensors have not stuck.
Check the wire inside the fuel tank, between the two sensors, for short circuit to voltage supply as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , short circuit to ground as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and open circuit as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Do the necessary corrective action.
