This fault tracing is only intended for vehicles equipped with the parking assistance system.
If the parking assistance system is activated and sound from the radio/CD/cassette/MD is muted when reverse gear is engaged even through there is no object within 1.5 meters behind the vehicle:
Try reprogramming the audio module (AUM).
Other information:
- To reprogram the audio module (AUM): Radio cassette player, replacing Radio Cassette Player, Replacing.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Start the vehicle.
- Radio on, sound heard clearly.
- Parking assistance system activated.
When reverse gear is engaged and the parking assistance system can detect that there is an object closer than 1.5 meters behind the vehicle:
- The radio should mute.
- The front speaker should produce an audible signal that warns of an object behind the vehicle.
When reverse gear is engaged and the parking assistance system cannot detect that there is an object closer than 1.5 meters behind the vehicle:
- The radio volume should be the same as when reverse gear is not engaged.
- There should be no audible signal to indicate there is an object behind the vehicle.
