Grounding of Differential Electronic Module to Reduce A.M. Band Radio Interference
Owners of all wheel drive vehicles may report A.M. radio static or a crackling noise heard in areas of weak A.M. radio reception. The disturbance is especially noticeable during acceleration and can be related to the function of the Differential Electronic Module.
To verify that the Differential Electronic Module is the source of a.m. radio disturbance, remove the fuse 11 D 17 for the DEM and conduct a brief test drive.
A ground cable P.N. 30679704 may be installed between the DEM and a fuel tank mounting strap fastener to eliminate the source of the disturbance.
Ground cable 30679704 should be routed as shown.
Remove DEM fastener shown and install cable terminal. Retorque fastener to 5.5 Nm.
Remove Tank strap fastener and install cable terminal. Reinstall strap fastener and torque to 24 Nm. Secure ground strap to existing harness with plastic cable tie.
Install plastic cable ties as shown to secure ground cable and ensure that it will not vibrate or contact moving parts.
Verify audio system function.
