Preparatory work




For cars equipped with Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept), replace the shock absorber. See: Shock absorber rear, replacing (Four-C) Shock Absorber Rear, Replacing (Four-C).
Raise the car. Install:999 7079 striker plate 999 7079 Striker Plate to secure the spring.
Lower the vehicle.

Removal

Removing the upper mounting for the shock absorber




Applies only to the S60 and S80.
Fold the rear seat backrest forward.

Remove:
- the clips. Fold out the front edge of the side panel in the cargo compartment
- the soundproofing
- the nut for the shock absorber upper mounting. Use tool:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber and a Torx wrench as a counterhold.
Only applies to V70.

Remove:
- the front floor hatch
- the soundproofing
- the nut for the shock absorber upper mounting. Use tool:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber and a Torx wrench as a counterhold.

Removing the shock absorber





Remove:
- the screw
- the shock absorber.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the shock absorber

Install:
- the shock absorber
- the screw (M12).

Installing the upper mounting for the shock absorber
Applies only to the S60 and S80.

Install:
- the nut for the shock absorber upper mounting. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use tool:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber
- the soundproofing.
Fold the front edge of the side panel in the cargo compartment back into place. Install the clips.
Fold the rear seat backrest back into place.
Applies only to V70:

Install:
- the nut for the shock absorber upper mounting. Use tool:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
- the soundproofing
- the front floor hatch.

Finishing

Raise the car. Remove the tool securing the spring:999 7079 striker plate 999 7079 Striker Plate.
Lower the car.

Note! If the car is equipped with Bi-xenon lamps, the position sensor must be calibrated.Carry out calibration. See VIDA. Vehicle communication, Function area 3 Electrical system, Rear electronic module.
