Spring front, replacement

Special tools:

Preparatory work





Remove:
- the wheel
- the anti-roll bar link from the spring strut.

Note! Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the boot is not damaged.

Remove:
- the ABS line from the spring strut
- the ABS sensor. Hang up the sensor using a piece of wire.

Removing position sensor





Remove:
- the screw
- the position sensor from the spring strut.

Measure the spring strut position in relation to the wheel spindle before removal





Note! The measurements are taken so that the same camber angle can be obtained when installing.

Measure across the wheel spindle and spring strut at the upper screw according to the illustration.
Clean measuring surfaces from dirt before measuring.
Note the measurement.

Removing the spring strut




Remove both the nuts from the screws in the spring strut - wheel spindle.




- Remove the two screws for the spring strut wheel spindle.
- Secure the wheel spindle with a piece of wire so that it cannot turn outwards when removed from the spring strut.




Loosen the connector by the suspension turrets and the lead from the clips.
Pull down the lead to the wheel housing.

Hint: Tie a wire in the cable harness for easier installation.





Remove:
- the nuts that hold the shock absorber bearing in the body, 3 pcs.
- the spring strut.

Removing the shock absorber bearing




Secure the spring strut in a vise.

Remove:
- the nut for the shock absorber bearing. Use socket: 999 5467 SOCKET 999 5467 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold
- the washer
- the support.

Removing the spring




Relieve the spring seat. Use hydraulic piston: : 951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston with claw: 951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw.

Remove:
- the fixing nut on the shock absorber. Use socket: 999 5469 SOCKET 999 5469 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
- the spring seat
- the spring
- the rubber bump stop and gaiter.




Check that the shock absorber support plate (1), the spring seat (2) and the rubber bump stop with boot (3) are undamaged. Replace if necessary.

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the spring




Compress the new spring to a length of approx. 260 mm. Use hydraulic piston: 951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston with claw: 951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw.





Install:
- the bump stop with the boot
- the spring
- the spring seat.
Fit the fixing nut. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use socket: 999 5469 SOCKET 999 5469 Socket and 3/8" torx socket as counterhold.

Installing the shock absorber bearing





Install:
- the support plate
- the washer
- the nut and tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use socket 999 5467 SOCKET 999 5467 Socket and 3/8" torx wrench as a counterhold.

Installing the spring strut




Fit the spring strut in the body with new nuts, 3 pcs. M8.
Pull up the shock absorber's lead in the engine compartment and plug in the connector by the suspension turret.
Fit the lead in the clips.




Install the spring strut on the stub axle. Use new screws and new nuts.
Adjust the spring strut and stub axle to the measured value.

Note! Ensure that measurement is performed at same points as when removing.

Tighten the screws according to Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing position sensor





Install:
- the position sensor
- the screw for the position sensor, 1 pc. M6.

Finishing





Install:
- the anti-roll bar link to the spring strut. Use a new nut. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use a torx wrench as counterhold to prevent damaging the gaiter.
- The ABS sensor. Tighten according to: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Note! Ensure that the ABS sensor seat in the stub axle is absolutely clean. Clean the ABS sensor with a soft brush.

Install:
- the ABS sensor cable in the bracket
- the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Check and adjust the headlamps in accordance with: Headlamps, aligning Adjustments.
