Expansion valve, replacing
Before starting work on the expansion valve
Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning (A/C) systems.

Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.
Removal
- First read section Before starting work on the expansion valve
- Disconnect the battery negative lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
- Drain the refrigerant from the system.
- Remove the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment. For 5 cylinder engines
- Remove the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment. For 6 cylinder engines
Open:
- the clamp for the refrigerant pipe on the side member.
- To replace the heat shield, see Replacing the heat shield for the TXV valve Replacing the Heat Shield for the TXV Valve.
- Remove the refrigerant pipes from the expansion valve. Pull the holder back slightly
- Detach the pipes from the expansion valve. Carefully move the pipes out of the way.
- Remove the screws holding the expansion valve
- Remove the expansion valve.
Installation
Note! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.
- Install the O-rings on the pipe from the evaporator
- Install the expansion valve. Thread on the screws. Tighten the screws. Tighten to: 10 Nm
- Install the O-rings on the pipes
- Position the pipes and the holders towards the expansion valve. At the same time check that the pipes are on the correct holder at the member
- Thread in the screw. Tighten the holder with the pipes on the expansion valve. Tighten to: 10 Nm
- Install the heat shield. Secure the heat shield using the plastic nuts
- Press the clamp together on the member
- Install the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment.
- Vacuum pump and test the system.
- Fill the system with refrigerant. Check for leaks.
- Connect the battery negative lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
