Replacing WHIPS




Replacing WHIPS

NOTE: This inspection must be carried out after all types of collision. If the deformation element is deformed or the indicator has been triggered, the deformation element must be replaced.

Removing the WHIPS system

Remove:
- the seat from the car.
- the lumbar support knob.

Turn the adjuster or run the backrest adjustment to the maximum reclining position.

Release the adjustment mechanism (C). Fold the backrest forwards.

NOTE: Be careful when the spring releases. There is considerable force in the spring.

Remove the spring (D).

Remove:







- the indicator pin or its remains.
- This applies only to cars up to the following chassis number, S60: -1499

- one nut (B) on each side
- one spindle (E) from each side.







Pull the end mounting apart.

Remove the deformation element (F), the plastic washers and the Oring.

Replace the deformation element.

NOTE: The O-ring (A) in the repair kit must be used for all models.

Installing the WHIPS system
The green indicator (G) supplied must only be installed on the deformation element in cars up to the following chassis number, S60: -1499

Install:
- the deformation element (F), the plastic washers and the O-ring
- the spindle (E)
- the nut (B). Tighten the nut. Tighten to 17 Nm ± 1 Nm
- the spring (D).

Position the seat in the normal position.

NOTE: The two plastic washers and the O-ring must be correctly positioned. Check that the indicator pin is intact and is correctly positioned after installation.

Reinstall all other removed components.
