DATE: 3-3-2004

MODEL:

M.YEAR:
2004

SUBJECT:
Buzzing Noise from M66 Shifter, S60R / V70R

This TNN supercedes the previous 43-40 dated 7-11-2003. Please update your files.

DESCRIPTION:

Some customers may complain of a "Buzzing" noise from the manual shift lever in S60R / V70R cars. The noise is most easily heard when accelerating at high engine RPM (3000 RPM and higher). Applying light pressure to the shifter by hand will make the noise disappear.

SERVICE:

Replace the shift cable assembly and gear selector lever according to the procedure in VADIS. Use a new roll-pin on the gear selector lever.

^ Shift Cable Assembly, PN 30711171
^ Gear Selector Lever, PN 30681437
^ Roll-Pin, PN 951991

NOTE:
Refer to photo shown.

Place the transmission and shifter in the Neutral position and adjust the cable according to VADIS. A mis-adjusted cable can result in the Reverse Lock-Out Solenoid blocking 5th and 6th gear instead of Reverse while the car is in motion. Verify that the gear shifter functions properly and that the buzzing noise has been remedied.
