DESCRIPTION:
We've received reports about incorrect fuel gauge indication after ignition on for cars with almost empty fuel tank. In some cases it was reported that the fuel gauge indicated Full, and in some cases it indicated 3/4. In all cases the fuel gauge slowly moves to the correct indication during driving. This slow return to the proper level is the result of a damping function and can take as long as 1 min for each 1,5 liters. It is also reported that the dropping of the fuel gauge can occur over multiple key cycles. This happens if there has not been enough driving time for the gauge to reach the actual fuel level and the damped value is stored for the next start.
An investigation has revealed a fault with the data sampling of the fuel sending unit by the CEM. The fault has been reproduced when the customer meets the following conditions:
1. Fuel level is low
2. Ignition key in position 0
3. Driver door opened and kept open for more than 1 minute (LS CAN must go to sleep)
4. Ignition key turned fast from position 0 to position 2 or 3 (fuel sender reading takes place before Low Speed CAN is active)
