Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-4050

Condition

The central electronic module (CEM) transmits information about the fuel level and the fault status of the fuel level sensor to the engine control module (ECM).
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored in the central electronic module (CEM) if the central electronic module (CEM) registers an electrical fault in the fuel level sensor. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) (Too high signal) is stored in the engine control module (ECM).
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) (Signal missing) is stored in the engine control module (ECM) if the engine control module (ECM) registers a communication problem with the central electronic module (CEM).
The engine control module (ECM) compares the engine fuel consumption with the change in fuel level over a set period of time. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) (Faulty signal) is stored in the engine control module (ECM) if the engine control module (ECM) registers an implausibly small reduction in the fuel level compared with calculated fuel consumption.

Substitute value
None.

Possible source

Signal too high
- Fault trace the central electronic module (CEM).

Signal missing
- Open-circuit in the control area network (CAN) wiring
- Short-circuit between the control area network (CAN) wiring
- Internal fault in another control module in the same part of the control area network (CAN).

Faulty signal
- Fault trace the central electronic module (CEM).

Fault symptom[s]
- Gauges/Fuel level not accurate/Value too low
