Checking The Cruise Control Lever

Checking the cruise control lever

Checking the cruise control lever

- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the cruise control lever buttons.

Note! Cruise control must be activated (ON) when the cruise control lever buttons are checked.

Check that the Cruise +, Cruise - and Resume button on the cruise control lever change status when the buttons are affected. The status for all buttons must be OFF when the buttons are unaffected. With the button affected the status must change to ON.

Hint: If none of the buttons change status it can indicate that there is no power supply from the engine control module (ECM) to the cruise control lever.

Check all the buttons on the cruise control lever by taking a reading across the cruise control lever terminals using an ohmmeter.
Check the cruise control lever connectors and terminals. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Also check the relevant connections and terminals on the engine control module (ECM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for loose connections.
Check the power supply cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B36 (#B46) and cruise control lever terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the signal cable for Cruise ON/OFF between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B24 (#B34) and cruise control lever terminal #2. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the signal cable for Resume between engine control module (ECM) terminal #A40 (#A40) and cruise control lever terminal #3. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the signal cable for Cruise - between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B35 (#B45) and cruise control lever terminal #4. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the signal cable for Cruise + between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B19 (#B29) and cruise control lever terminal #5. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Remedy as necessary.

- With Cruise ON, the voltage to the cruise control lever is a quadratic wave with a peak voltage of Ubat and is supplied via engine control module (ECM) terminal #B36 (#B46)
- At Cruise OFF, the power supply to the cruise control lever is a saw tooth voltage with a peak voltage of Ubat and offset voltage of approximately 7.5 V.
