TCM-0042
TCM-0042 Oil Temperature, Temperature too high
Condition
The oil temperature sensor sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) which is used for functions such as temperature controlled lockup and initiating high-temperature programs. The sensor has an Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) resistor. The signal (voltage) decreases with increasing oil temperature. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) TCM-0042 is stored if the Transmission Control Module (TCM) receives a signal from the oil temperature sensor corresponding to a temperature above approximately +150°C for approximately 2 minutes.
Substitute value
- No substitute values.
Possible source
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Short-circuit to ground in signal cable.
- Defective oil temperature sensor.
- Mechanical fault in the transmission.
- The transmission has been exposed to extreme load and high ambient temperature.
Fault symptom[s]
- General orange warning lamp lit.
