Removing the rear section of the exhaust system
Remove the rear section of the exhaust system according to Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.
Removing the propeller shaft
Remove the propeller shaft according to Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.
Detaching the anti-roll bar
Remove the holder for the parking brake cable from the cover for the rear axle member and the rear mountings in the heat deflector plate.
Detach the anti-roll bar from the links and the mountings in the rear axle member. Leave the anti-roll bar loosely on the trailing arms.
Detaching the final drive housing
Position mobile jack 998 5972 JACK 998 5972 Jack and universal plate 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture against the cover and the Active on Demand coupling / final drive.
Remove the 8 screws from the cover and the screw from the front bushing on the final drive.
Position thick cloths between the drive shafts and the inner sections on the trailing arms.
Lower the hoist with the cover. Leave the final drive housing hanging from the drive shafts.
Note! Check that the bleed hose on top of the final drive is not kinked or stretched. Check that the cable harness for the Active on Demand coupling does not stretch when the final drive housing is lowered.
Removing the front bushing from the final drive housing
Remove the washer that is pressed onto the top of the bushing. Use a screwdriver.
Use hydraulic tool 999 5576 HYDRAULIC PUMP 999 5576 Hydraulic Pump with puller cylinder 999 5575 PULLER CYLINDER USED WITH HYDRAULIC PUMP -5576 999 5575 Puller Cylinder Used With Hydraulic Pump -5576 or 951 2564 Hydraulic tool 951 2564 Hydraulic Tool.
Install:
- threaded rod 999 5588 Puller rod 999 5588 Puller Rod for the puller cylinder
- drift 5767-1 for the puller cylinder (turned with the cut-outs towards the support lugs in the final drive housing)
- counterhold 999 5767 Press tool 999 5767 Press Tool on top. Press out the bushing.
Installing the front bushing in the final drive housing
Lubricate the outer sleeve of the new bushing with petroleum jelly.
Position the new bushing with the beveled edge towards the final drive housing.
Install:
- drift 5767-1 with counterhold 5767-2
- drift 5767-3 against the bushing.
Push in the bushing until it reaches the support lugs in the final drive housing.
Install the washer on top of the bushing. Press the washer into place using the screw for the bushing and a nut.
Replacing the rear bushing in the final drive housing
Removal
Lift up the final drive housing at the front edge so that it is horizontal.
Use an open wrench as support and tap off the bushing on both sides from the final drive.
Installation
Tap in the new bushings. Use a rubber mallet.
Installing the final drive housing
Note! Check that the bleed hose on top of the final drive is not kinked. Check that the bleed hose is connected. Check that the bleed hose is secured to the sub-frame using a tie strap.
Lift the cover up to the final drive housing and rear axle member.
Install the 8 screws and the screw for the front bushing in the final drive.
Lightly tighten the screws alternately.
Then tighten the screws for the cover. Tighten to 100 Nm.
Tighten the screw for the front bushing for the final drive. Tighten to 80 Nm.
Installing the anti-roll bar
Install:
- the anti-roll bar on the mountings in the rear axle member and the links using new lock nuts. Tighten to 80 Nm
- the holder for the hand brake cables on the cover for the rear axle member and the mountings for the heat deflector plate.
Installing the propeller shaft
Install the propeller shaft according to Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.
Installing the rear section of the exhaust system
Install the rear section of the exhaust system according to Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.
