Control arm lower, replacing

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work





Remove:
- the wheel
- the mudguard on the lateral link
- the mudguard under the control arm.
If the vehicle is equipped with Bi-Xenon lamps or Four-C

Note! Cars equipped with Four-C use the same position sensor as the Bi-Xenon lamps.Remove the position sensor. See: Position sensor suspension rear (Four-C), replacing Service and Repair.

Removing the shock absorber




Secure the control arms down. Use retaining straps.

Note! The shock absorbers are slightly compressed.

Remove:
- the screw for the shock absorber
- the shock absorbers from the control arms.
Remove the tensioner strap.




Remove the screw securing the lateral link against the wheel spindle.




Remove the screw securing the tie rod to the wheel spindle. Angle the tie rod upwards so that the mounting screw securing the control arm to the sub-frame is exposed.

Removing the lower control arm





Remove:
- the 2 mounting screws on the lower control arm
- the lower control arm.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque [1][2]Mechanical Specifications.

Installing the lower control arm




Install the lower control arm using the 2 screws. Do not tighten yet
Press the control arm to the normal position using a mobile jack.

Normal position
- V70 2000 = 394 mm
- V70 AWD = 418 mm
- V70 XC = 432 mm
- S60 = 373 mm
- S80 = 380 mm.
Press the suspension up to its normal position, see Normal position Normal Position.

Tighten:
- the 2 M12 screws for the control arm
- the tie rod against the wheel spindle, M12.

Installing the lateral link




Tension the lower control arm slightly against the jacking point. Use the retaining strap.
Install the two M12 screws for the lateral link.
Remove the mobile jack and the retaining strap

Installing the shock absorber




Secure the control arms down. Use retaining straps.

Install:
- the shock absorbers for the control arms
- the M12 screw for the shock absorber.
Remove the tensioner strap.

If the vehicle is equipped with Bi-Xenon lamps or Four-C

Note! Cars equipped with Four-C use the same position sensor as the Bi-Xenon lamps.Install the position sensor. See: Position sensor suspension rear (Four-C), replacing Service and Repair.

Finishing





Install:
- the mudguard on the lateral link, M8
- the mudguard under the control arm using the 2 screws.
Calibrate the position sensor Four-C

Note! It uses the same position sensor for the Bi-Xenon lamps.

Calibrate the position sensors.
Check/adjust the wheel alignment. See: Wheel alignment, checking / adjusting Service and Repair.
