Software Download Operation

Software Download Operation

When downloading software to the car there are several stages in the downloading in VIDA. The stages in VIDA are as follows:
- Preparations.
- Verification.
- Downloading.
- If necessary one method, for example, entering the PINs for new remote controls.
- Confirmation.

The preparations include the User being asked to attach a battery charger, at which point a number of checks are made of, for example, the voltage level and the ignition key positions to see if they are correct.

Then verification occurs. During verification, VIDA compares software, hardware and serial numbers in the car with the those supplied in the software package. If the answer has been given that the hardware has been replaced, via the dialog window, the replaced control module will not be included in the verification. This is because the new identity of the control module does not correspond with the old one stored in the Volvo central database.

CAUTION:
- Software downloading is limited in that only one new control module can be replaced at a time.
- It is therefore important that only one control module is replaced, and that one reload is carried out for that control module before replacing the next control module.
- If two control modules are replaced at the same time, an incorrect configuration will be sent to the Volvo central database. The car cannot be reset without help from the helpdesk, which can take several days.

On the condition that the verification was OK, the car continues in programming mode and the software is downloaded. If the verification was not OK, a miss-match has occurred. Non Matching Data

If the download is for new remote controls, the PINs must to be entered. The mechanic enters the new PINs via VIDA. New PIN codes are supplied with new remote controls.

The confirmation means that a confirmation file, with the new car configuration, is created and sent to the Volvo central database. The confirmation updates the car configuration in the Volvo central database. This is so that a miss-match will not occur at the next download. A confirmation file is transmitted in cases when the PINs have been programmed. The Volvo central database is updated with the new PINs. These PINs will automatically be downloaded to the new upper electronic module during a reload if the upper electronic module is replaced at a later date.
