Skid Plate: Service and Repair
Rear guard plate
Rear guard plate
- Clean the section of the bumper surface that will be covered by the guard plate
- Position the guard plate as illustrated. Ensure that the lateral ribs are centred with the corresponding grooves in the bumper. The lower edges of the guard plate and bumper must be parallel and preferably edge to edge.
Note! Two people are required to carry out this operation.
- Hold the guard plate securely in the determined position. Get a colleague to measure the distances (A). The measurements must be identical. Adjust the position of the lower edge of the protective panel if necessary.
Note! If the car has a tow hitch: Check that there is no risk of damage to the wiring.
- Hold the guard plate securely. Carefully mark out the holes for the six screws using a pointed object through the holes in the guard plate
- Remove the guard plate. First drill out the hole using a -6 mm (15/64") diameter drill bit. Then use a -12.5 mm (1/2") diameter drill bit. Drill at right angles to the underlay. Do not enlarge the holes excessively or the rubber nut may not sit properly
- Remove the swarf. Clean around the edges of the holes.
- Turn the spacer sleeves so that the grooved ends faces upwards. Press the rubber nuts down so that they align with the grooves of the spacer sleeves
- Press the rubber nuts and spacer sleeves securely into the drilled holes
- Apply locking fluid to the screws
- Install the guard plate. Tighten the plate using the screws. Tighten to 5 Nm (3.7 lbf.ft.).
