Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) SRS 00BB and 00C0, Fault-tracing and Repairing

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) SRS 00BB and 00C0, fault-tracing and repairing

Checking the cable terminals for the SRS sensor

If diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) SRS 00BB and 00C0 occur remove and check the cable terminal in the SRS (supplemental restraint system) sensor connector as follows.
Disconnect the connector for the SRS sensor, see: Removing, replacing and installing Supplemental restraint system (SRS), control module (SRS).
Remove the tie strap (1) around the wiring and connector.

Open the catches (2) on both sides of the connector. Pull the receptacle housings from the casing (1).

Checking the cable terminals
Check the cable terminals in the following terminals:
White receptacle housing terminals A27 and A28.
Blue receptacle housing terminals C27 and C28.
Black receptacle housing terminals B23 B24 B25 B26 B27 and B28.
Check that the cable terminals are not damaged by looking in the cable terminal opening.
The opening must be square, right angled and the cable terminal sides must be align with the receptacle housing.
Damaged receptacle housings are a sign that the cable terminals are also damaged.
If the cable terminals are undamaged, reinstall the connector. See step Installing the connector.
Carry out the final check according to: Removing, replacing and installing Supplemental restraint system (SRS), control module, final check (SRS).
If the cable terminals are damaged, replace the damaged wiring. See step Repairing the wiring.

Repairing the wiring

Disconnect the receptacle housings from each other.

Twisted wiring must be replaced in pairs.

Note! To avoid confusion only replace one pair of cables, or one cable, at a time.

Remove the damaged cable or pair of cables

Note the position of each cable.
Remove the cable terminal by pressing the catch (1). Pull the cable.
Press the catch (2). Pull the cable out.
Use special tool951 2638 Terminal removal tool 951 2638 Terminal Removal Tool when disconnecting the cable terminals.

Take anewcable or pair of cables with the same color markings as the disconnected cables.
Cut off the damaged cable to the same length as the new cable.

Note! The cable lengths are different so that the butt connectors are offset after installation.

Stripping the cables

Strip5 mm(A) off the damaged cable.
Use cable stripping tool951 2620 Stripping tool 951 2620 Stripping Tool.

Check the cable ends

Ensure that the cable ends look like the same as in the upper illustration.
It is important to ensure a good result when stripping.

Crimping the butt connector

Insert the cable with the same color marking in the butt connector.
Crimp using the green marked cut-out on special tool951 2785 Crimping tool 951 2785 Crimping Tool.
Check the crimping by looking and feeling that the cable is correctly installed.

Crimping the butt connectors

Use hot-air gun951 2777 Hot-air gun 951 2777 Hot Air Gun and nozzle951 2778 Nozzle 951 2778 Nozzle.
Set the hot-air gun to flow 2 and set the temperature between 2 and 3.
Protect surrounding components from heat.
Position the butt connector in the nozzle and heat so that the adhesive forces its ways out of both ends.

A maximum of100 mm(A) of the twisted wiring can be untwisted at the join.

Installing the wiring in the receptacle housing

Install the cable terminals in the receptacle housing in the same position as earlier.
Check that the cable terminal is locked in the innermost position.

Installing the connector

Assemble the receptacle housings.

Install the receptacle housings in the connector.
Check that the receptacle housings lock in the side of the connector.

Install a new tie strap on the wiring around the cable harness and connector (1).

Installing the connector on the control module
Connect the connector on the control module, see: Removing, replacing and installing Supplemental restraint system (SRS), control module (SRS).

Checking diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 00BB
Check that the rear side impact sensor is correctly connected after finishing the repair.
Remove the connector on the left-hand rear side impact sensor, see: Removing, replacing and installing SRS (supplemental restraint system) Side impact sensor.
Switch the ignition to position II.
- Connect the battery negative lead
- Wait 15 seconds
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 00BB should now be displayed.
Continue fault-tracing according to the ordinary fault-tracing routine if another diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is displayed.
Switch off the ignition.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Connect the cable on the left-hand rear side impact sensor, see: Removing, replacing and installing SRS (supplemental restraint system) Side impact sensor.
Connect the battery negative lead.

Final check
Carry out the final check according to: Removing, replacing and installing Supplemental restraint system (SRS), control module, final check (SRS).
